I forced myself to sit through all the Patlabor OVA's (both the 7 episode and 16 episode series) the TV show (47 episodes)
The TV show and 2nd OVA are the same continuity. Unfortunately, 80% of all their episodes are filler, and the "plot" episodes resolve in a really retarded and unfulfilling way.
The 1st OVA is in continuity with the movies and is definitely better than the TV eps and OVA2, but still not great.
Patlabor fans, watch the movies and MAYBE OVA1. Avoid the rest unless you are super bored like I was.

I started watching Earth Maiden Arjuna a few days ago, and so far I've seen 3 episodes. And it's been great! Especially episode 3 but the anime as a whole shows a lot of promise. Interesting concept, really nice designs and visuals overall, that vocalized background music. It's been great. Even the CGI looks really nice, and I hate that in all anime otherwise. If this anime keeps up like this, it'll be amazing.

Spirit of Wonder is one of the weirdest anime I've seen. Not in the "lol so random I'm unique" sense, but that it's just unplaceable, occupying that sort of the same space that YKK and some other shows do, but in a different sense. Natsume, YKK, Kamichu, and even Kino to a sense have that iyashikei vibe, but Spirit of Wonder isn't quite that. It's like if you crossed YKK with Honneamise.

The world was destroyed, and decaying fast. I applaud the anime team for developing the warring nations more than the manga, for creating The Debonair/Nova faction and changing the fucking ending away from "Lol Mokona is God."

They made a competent recap episode that really fleshed out Hikaru's character and Hikeru Shiina owned the moment as the bouncy Happy Go lucky Red knight started to lose her goddamn mind over guilt and self-loathing. Reading Kyou Kara Ore Wa and Urusei Yatsura raw. Trying City Hunter but the way of speaking is slightly above my level so I keep having to refer to a dictionary often.

Thinking about reading Rokudenashi Blues to try translating manga for fun. It's hard to find series that haven't been translated yet, but also aren't completely shit.

I've been watching The Hakkenden and it's fucking great.

Yuasa directed episode 4, and it's the first time I'd say that it was a mistake because the art style completely shifts into a much cartoonier/disney-er art style right when monsters show up for the first time and tear some people to shreds, but they look extremely comical in an otherwise very serious episode.

That's the appeal. It's an utterly generic fantasy story/DnD campaign and people want to see it animated.

I prefer the TV series though. The lineart isn't as nice, but it's more consistently actually animated and Spark's got a better party than Parn.
