The single biggest mistake was made during the date chapter. Up to that point the implication is that Kanoi being a monster was no big deal, then the drama ball started rolling and that's what ultimately killed the otherwise comfy and cute slice of life stuff. If that whole bullshit hadn't happened I think the series could have rolled on just fine, but I think he wrote himself into a corner.
