Both Mai series are great

Hime was the greatest

Otome was fun, Hime had potential but wasted it in the last episodes.

I thought they were both mediocre, and having rewatched both recently I still think they are and I don't get the hype behind them, aside from good music.
Paper thin plots, poor world-building, way too many bland characters and the occasional hint of mystique and grander things that are promptly forgotten and never go anywhere.

Something about pineapples and feather dusters.
