It's pretty obvious that Toriyama bases the post-movie arcs as sequels to his movies, and not Toei's re-telling of them.

This is the same logic we've been using for years: Content that's in an anime that is not from the source material is filler. Ginyu taking Tagoma's body in Toei's RoF is equilvalent to The Ginyu Force fighting in King Kai's place in Toei's Namek Saga.

The manga actually did something interesting with Hit's strange mannerisms. Where in which Hit was strategically hiding his movements and his hands to avoid Goku seeing his tells. This also made Goku predicting Hits timeskip more believable since he was given a frame of reference for when Hit was going to use his time powers. In the manga, he knew he could have beaten him, yet walked away for the same reasons. Alluding to Hit's untapped strength being grounds for a really good fight, not just being there to make Goku look bad, and the entire thing feel pointless. Yes, but that's only on a symbolic level.
A good comparison would be the Buu Genkidama. In the same way, Goku saved everyone multiple times. But after that you have a bunch of chapters where Goku's charging it and his allies are trying to buy him some time. There's struggle on both symbolic levels (everyone must help Goku, the Earthlings will finally save their planet), and the realistic level (Goku is standing with his attack while Fat Buu is almost dead and Vegeta has to stall despite not even being capable of SSJ anymore). DBS would have needed the latter for it to be truly satisfying.

I wouldn't go that far. It's fluid, but there are lots of bad choices just as usual. First, the headbutts lose their impact because of that gay ass lightning that hide the shock. They probably thought it'd make some "they're so strong it creates sparkles" effect but it doesn't work with that lightning. Then there's the choregraphy itself which is good but doesn't fit DB's speeds, things happen too slow and the characters are moving on short distances, it's something humans could probably pull and doesn't reflect the insane speed of the characters and the distances they move at every step.
I'm not saying it's bad, it's good, but not 100% Dragon Ball.

Don't get me wrong, DBM is pretty great in other aspects. The story is very entertaining despite some discutable writing choices, it's really hard to get bored of the Multiverse formula. Some fights are awesome (it's a matter of length most of the time) and there's a lot of diversity in them. I wish they could improve the dialogs by getting rid of pointless exposition and getting closer to original Toriyama writing, and also improve their storyboards rather than sticking to square panels ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

It's a lot of fanservice, like, they're going to reuse elements of the original DB in situations that please the fans, sometimes they'll expand on it with their own take on (like that new fusion dance thing). I think it's a matter of balance between introducing new elements and reusing old ones so the new ones don't feel to foreign and the old ones don't feel like a cheap nostalgia rehash.
With the tournament, that balance isn't respected, the whole FIGHT-FIGHT-FIGHT-FIGHT (thanks to having so many participants) structure forces to reuse old elements with a little twist (here's Cell, he's stronger and all) and after all these fights it's a bit heavy.
However, they improved on that aspect. The recent fights were longer (so they didn't feel like fanservice enumeration) and had breaks between them where characters would do things and the story would expand. That's a good choice, I think.

One of the remaining problems is the lack of U18 comfiness. Without being immersed with the protagonists, it's hard to feel as much for DBM than I felt reading DB where the cast is likeable and well defined. It's another problem that comes with the number of characters and the fanmanga thing that forces to use less pages to tell the same story. They should add more comedic/SOLesque moments (but by comedy I don't mean the geeky comedy but more like Toriyama's comedy)

And here's where the square panels issue comes for me, using other types of panels would allow to convey more information and more efficiently during the fights and even the dialogues. I think they could easily improve their pacing and their storyboarding by using panels differently. The HD versions of the pages show that the drawings are fucking huge, they could make one page into two or three if they wanted.

The only thing left are the gods of destruction/angels, but we already know they aren't going to be reaching that level of power any time soon.

Everything about that part was perfect.
Goku and Vegeta went in thinking that it would be an easy job.
Then Black comes in all stylish like with the lightning and clouds and that fucking orchestrated version if his theme.
He makes a fool out of Vegeta with that chin touch and brushing of his attacks like it was nothing in base form, while being smug as fuck the entire time.
He turns fucking ssj pink and against everyones expectations it looked cool as fuck.
He stabs vegeta in the chest and desperate assault starts playing.

That's one thing where I really prefer Super's Vegeta over GT's Vegeta.

GT's Vegeta has gone just too far. He's basically like a sitcom dad who just happens to have the power to blow up a solar system.

Super's Vegeta has emotionally matured, but he's still juggling all those feelings within him, love for Bulma, fatherly care for his one son in two time lines, his rivalry, dislike and respect for Goku, his Saiyan pride, his princely heritage, etc. etc. etc. Makes him a bit less easy to predict.

I especially like Vegeta's really weird sense of humour - like when he was fucking with Frieza. Look at this face, it's amazing.
