It does have a few plot holes that are not immediately apparent, but the bulk of the hate comes from "it's popular now so I hate it". Other shows like KLK, Re Zero, and so on get this issue too. /a/ endlessly hypes and raves about the show when it's airing, only to whine and shit on it when it gets a dub or becomes popular with a wider audience.

My problem with Mirai Nikki wasn't any 'loopholes' or whatever, it was just the premise. The show only works because the protag is not only the biggest beta, but also a retard. Not to mention the contestants in the battle to become GOD is kinda underwhelming. You'd think God would choose better candidates than high school students, a toddler, and a power crazed blind man with a sentai fetish. The others aren't too bad, but my point is, these are the people God chose to potentially succeed him. And all they all happen to live in the same city. I got enjoyment out the show when I first watched it, but afterwards I had to think to myself, what the fuck did i just watch? The premise is just too stupid to take seriously.

I guess it's no surprise that I didn't really enjoy Evangelion's premise either. I understand if you like it, but personally it's not for me. Both the shows take themselves pretty seriously, and if the show wants to take itself seriously, I need a serious premise otherwise I can't really feel immersed.
