"Realism" in every type of work. Cute girls doing cute things? Throw in anxieties about grades/graduation, family relationship issues, old friends who went down the wrong path, etc. Isekai? Re:Zero/SAO imitators with more grimderp and meaningless RPG mechanics in fantasy settings. Shounen? MC's screaming and yelling about nakama will not actually power him up, he will not be denser than a neutron star, and he might have more personality than a well-meaning but kind of stupid kid. This will never actually happen.

But yeah, "realism". Or at least common genre tropes being inverted.

How's that realistic? I knew a couple of guys who are full-blown drug addicts from what I've heard every now and then but I don't give a shit about them and vice versa.
If they "went down the wrong path", odds are you'll never interact with them again or just don't care about them at all.
