Let's pacefully talk about cards, gifts, and love for everyone.
I have no idea how to make a christmas card and I still have to send 2 to some people. My handrwriting's very ugly.

Alright!
It's time to start working on cards!!
TIfromWA, you've already seen my posts last weekend so you know you're getting something. It should be sent out by Tuesday at the latest!CSTfromCA, I'll be sending yours out the same day! Don't worry, because you haven't been grinched!
Is it some new gimmick this year that all Europeans got other Europeans for gifters? me and people I know all got guys form the same continent despite choosing intercontinental.
Not that I'm complaining, just curious.
>still no reply from the guy organising
Cmon anon, give me a match. I've been searching my inbox and trash all night to see if I missed it and there's nothing there.
>>149671661CR?
I'm in the process of trying to fix it now. There was some weird screwup that happened because of a late drop out. I've got someone who wanted to help out if we got issues with the drops, so I'm just waiting on them to respond again so I can get their info.
>>149671908
Sorry I know you get many emails and probably just want people to be patient, but how long do you usually take to respond to emails?
>>149671908
Santafaggot, how long does it usually take to get an updated wishlist from someone after asking for one? I got an email back last weekend that you'd ask the person but I still haven't gotten it.
>>149671651
I think it's probably more that non-Europeans would be less willing to ship outside their continents. I know it's a killer for North Americans to ship outside the continent in particular, so maybe a lot of them didn't want to.
Can I still sign up for sending / receiving cards? Just moved into a new apartment and would like to decorate some...
>>149671908
Yeah that's me. I just got excited from the last thread and everyone was making it seem like they had their matches for a while now so I got nervous.
>>149672035
>>149672046
I usually go through the emails 1-2 times a day, more on the weekends, and try to get everything in them.
If you just emailed me asking either for more information, or to pass on information, I've probably taken care of it. Sometimes it just takes a while for them to get back to me. If it's been more than like two days, that's probably what it is, but if you're concerned, you can email me again.
>>149672074
Intercontinental shipping is pretty wallet-raping. I made an attempt to avoid that for gifting at least, though cards didn't have that restriction.
>>149672132
Yeah sorry about that. I could have sworn that I messaged you about that, but looking at the email now, I must have forgotten.
Anyway, I'm going to go have lunch, then swing by the post office. Will be back later this afternoon.

What date did this happen? I sent an email that could probably be misread as a dropout 3 days ago
SMfromUK
I'm waiting for half the present to arrive and I'm allmost done with the other half.
You won't be grinched.
>>149672179
>swing by the post office
PO box soon?
>>149672242
When's the cut off date for that?
>>149672305
No, this was while assignments were going out.
Someone got their assignment and was basically like "Oh shit I forgot I signed up for this, please remove me, I can't afford it." and when I tried to fix the chain, I screwed up, and accidentally dropped him from the chain as well. I didn't notice until he messaged me about not getting an assignment.

That's the idea.

To Santafaggot, please let me know if there's anyway I can be put in for sending/receiving cards. Found your old email in the archives but didnt want to spam you. Thanks bud
>>149672620
oh shit, on my birthday
>>149664678
I'm sure they will like it, I made some cross stitch keychains last year and everyone loved them. But cross stitching can take a while to make.
>>149667393
Nice. I commented on it in a previous thread, but I guess you didn't see it.
>>149672686
Now that's what I'd call a sign, anon.
>>149672710
Here's the 2 I sent last year.
>>149672933
Those are adorable and I think anyone would be happy to get one
>>149672664
I wish i was assured no one grinches me. This is my first year trying this thing.MKfromPL
>>149673215
Just hold on tight. There isn't a reason to worry.
When do most people try to have their gifts arrive by? I cant remember when they arrived the last two years.
I learned less than a week ago I will be out of state for Christmas, so I wont be able to open my gift on Christmas unless it arrives before the 21st
>>149673215
I understand how you feel.I can't help but feel slightly worried having not seen my initials at all but on the other hand I'm not posting my assignments either.
Some santas should stay secret until christmas, in my opinion it's more fun that way.
>>149673474
I assume you're in the US, so here's the shipping deadlines for the USPS. I try to mail out the 1st or 2nd week of December.
Most people don't open their gift and post them until the 24th, but cards whenever
>>149673215
you have same initials as my boss, could it be possible a fellow /a/non is so close and i never noticed ?
I should start drawing those cards...
>>149673475
There's nothing wrong with showing initials. It's not fun to withhold them. I kept getting told last year "Don't worry!" and I ended up getting grinched.
So stop being an asshole and show those initials.
>>149674229
You being suspicious and anxious doesn't make him an asshole. You may have gotten grinched but plenty of people who didn't have their initials posted didn't. It's always the people who get stiffed who talk the loudest.
>>149674137
I'm no one's boss irl so it's a coincidence
>decide I can't draw
>pick one of the series my /ss/ likes and find a nice picture
>start dicking around with effects in paint.NET
>get carried away
A small sampling of what the picture ended up looking like. I can't tell if my /ss/ would like this or if it'd just piss them off.
>>149673742
Remember to never trust deadlines.
Fuck-ups can always happen.
I still feel sorry for trusting those dates. My santa received his gift late.
>>149674137
>>149674423
Don't listen to them, /a/non. This person is actually your boss and intends to fire you for having a shit waifu.
>>149674229
I guess it's nicer to not see initials and still get great presents/cards than to see initials and maybe still be grinched.
>>149674644
Is there a case of someone getting their initials posted and still getting grinched? Seems like a real dick move to get someone's hopes up like that.
>>149674720
I've gotten a message directly from my match through email apologizing for being late and saying they were getting stuff together to get mailed and got grinched in the end.
>>149674788
Same thing happened to me last year
>>149674229
My initials got posted and I still got grinched, your logic is flawed.
For people that have bought from Mandarake before, if you're buying items from the same store do they ship it together? I don't want to pay 2000 yen shipping twice for something coming from the same place.
>>149675131
Same store ships together, different store ship separate.
>>149675131
Yes, of course. It would be nonsense for them not to. But make absolutely certain all the items are from the same store.
>>149675165
>>149675171
Alright just wanted to double check. I'll see if I can find all the stuff I want through one shop.

Well, since apparently you either need your name on the deed, car insurance or a voter ID to get a P.O. box, it's going to be on hold until I get a new copy of my voter ID, since this state has some ass-backwards laws about voting.

>>149677930
Retard logic
If you post your own initials after complaining about your initials not being posted, then the asshole who won't post your initials will think you're a whiny bitch and may grinch you
Don't be a piece of shit, post the initials of the fucking people you have
>>149677831
>>149677603
Oh, yeah, true, and I keep forgetting we don't get mail on Saturday like Americans do. Probably get it Monday or Tuesday or something then, unless CP is being retarded.
>>149677831
>my uncle works for nintendo
>>149678038
>Don't be a piece of shit, post the initials of the fucking people you have
The grinch rate for /ss/ is 4%, you should assume that you are getting a gift, there is no need for confirmation of this.
Not having your initials posted doesn't mean you're grinched, and having them posted doesn't make you immune to grinching either.
>>149678038
Why does it matter so much that your initials are posted? They don't actually indicate that you won't be grinched.
I personally don't post initials for presents until I've ordered them, and for cards I just don't.
>>149678038
Calm down. Sorry your initials haven't been posted but no one is obligated to post them.

They put down three very "safe" shows(monogatari, k-on, and code geass)that don't give me any idea of what kind of shows they enjoy or shows they haven't seen that I could rec and they didn't list any characters they liked either. It's not like I can't do anything with it but I feel like I can't go all out either. The most I got was that they liked handmade and maybe wanted figures.
>>149681628
>I'm using Amazon
What are you doing, you moron. Go read the guide in the buyfag thread.
>I don't want to order from Japan due to delays.
If it makes you feel better, I ordered something last week and it'll arrive Monday. Just don't pick SAL.
>>149681628
In the buyfag guide they also list both american and european based shops you could look through instead. You might have a better selection then on amazon.
>>149681668
If someone doesn't list specific characters you can probably take that to mean they like anyone. It'd probably be easiest to pick from K-On since it has the smallest pool of characters and none of them are really divisive. You could just put together a really extensive K-On themed gift.
>>149681738

I don't think any of those have much in the way of merchandise. They are either really niche or just too new. But I'm sure you could find something if you check places besides amazon.

Katanagatari has a bunch of figures, but they aren't very good.

>>149682819

>>149682871
Yes.
>>149682871
Depends on the item. Amico has a wide arrary of box sizes so they will pick the best one for the item(s). Depending on the figures packaging and how much paper she stuffs in as well. A lone 1/8 figure without a huge box may be as little as 2k. Single Nendo may get you down between 1500-2000.
The only other shipping option That may be cheaper and still arrive on time from Amico is Air Small Packet.

Is getting a daki cover for my assignment a bad idea if I know nothing about them other than their waifu and favorite shows? Is there a lot of you out there for whom a daki is "too much"?
>>149682231
Metal in envelope is fine, I remember a quarter for railgun and a razor in past years. Just make sure it's inside the card or taped in because the auto sorter can tear rigid edges.
>>149683405
Dakis should be considered typical anime merch, so if your giftee didn't specifically mention no dakis / no lewd things then anything should be fair game, I don't recall ever hearing of anons being upset at receiving one.

>>149687106
It's fine. I don't think anyone would feel off unless they got $50 over their tier or something like that.

Must be nice.
I finally got some time to set up the computer simulations I'll use to generate my cards.
I hope they turn out well.
Has anyone tried to add their match on facebook (provided they got a real name and not just "anon"). I've gotten like 2 friend requests from people I don't know so I haven't accepted them yet.
>>149691616
Are you making randomly generated cards?
>>149691646
Fuck off, normalfag.
>>149691646
My anon has kind of a weird name, so searching gets me no results.
>no initials
>not even for cards
>>149691664
No. I'm no artist, but I think there's some natural beauty to physics. So, I'm simulating optics using their request in some way.
>>149691923What are your initials?
>>149691646
Can't you make it so that even if your name is searched it still doesn't show up?
I remember I did that ages ago.
>>149691607
>MSfromNJgets
I hate that, because my initial is off by one letter.
>anon listed a bunch of shows and his waifu
>one of the shows is Soranowoto
Hope you like your card anon.
My proxy service sent my package out with a malformed address and only my last name, so I'm worried, that my p.o. box at my university might not get or reject the mail, and there's no way if it gets returned to sender that I'd have the gift in time to send out for Christmas.
Is this thing well liked among Ariafags?
My anon didn't list a fav character.
>>149691923
>sign up for 10+ people every year
>never post initials
>sometimes see my anons posting their own, literally begging for someone to confirm
>>149692299
I don't particularly care for it. The other two main cats are superior.
>>149692299
How many Ariafags are there? I've never even heard of that show before bu two of my assignmets listed it.
Guess I should work on my shittaste.
>>149692299
So-so. Well I don't think anyone hates it.
>>149692670
/a/ used to talk about it a lot. But it is pretty old now so I guess there isn't much talk nowadays.
>>149692601
Superior Aria cat princess president.
>>149692498
>>149692601
Thanks anon, Is this the other cat?
>>149692676
I don't even know it, but I wanna punch it's face.

Please pray my hand sewn seams don't pop tails out the stuffing right after being received like my last doll. It's harmless but good god I wished I had covert scissors to deal with it. The tension is going to be unbearable.

Finally had the time to check out the threads, I can't wait!
After tomorrow's deadline it'll be spending time for me at last, look forward to itPAfromRomania. You included your steam account which is fine, but I'll be keeping this anonymous for as long as the event runs, wouldn't want to ruin the magic.
>>149691607
I feel the same way as those are my initials too, but I'm from NL, not NJ. Although most people would just list my location as "Canada".
Do people really dislike just blowing past the bracket? I just got a pretty good job and decided to buy grails for a couple of people in the poorfag bracket.I mean I'm not opposed to just keeping them if it'll make people feel bad.
>>149694043
no, don't be silly.
>>149694043
I always blow out the bracket, but that's because my self-control is terrible.
>>149694043
Is this the hot new meme? Literally nobody gives a shit if you go over, it is explained EVERY time this question gets asked
>>149694043
I use being over even by a few dollars as reassurance I'm not fucking this up as bad as I feel I am.
>>149694043
its anons like you that let me go under my designated amount, so my anons can feel bad.
>>149693896Are you at the same address as 2014?
Do anons work on all their cards in stages or start to finish/one at a time?
>>149694577
One at a time. That way my attention is focused.
>>149694577
Sakura(?) looks incredibly adorable anon.
I work similar to you though.
Get them all sketched out then I go to each individual card and finish each one one at a time.
>>149694316
You are mean.
>>149694184
I agree, but I was just wondering since it was brought up before and I went way, way over.
>>149694577
First I get general ideas for all my cards, and write those down. ie, draw a picture of karen with a toothbrush.
Then, I layout all the cards in photoshop, which consists mostly of taking a picture and putting a santa hat on it.
Finally, I trace then color in each card.
>>149694675
Thanks (yes, it's Sakura)!
Exactly how I'm doing them once I finish the rest of sketches for all my cards. But I worked on them one at a time last year. I think I like it better this way!
>>149690800
>JSofMA
That might be me. If it is, I hate to say it but I probably won't be home for a while. You can still hand deliver, of course, but if you're hoping to meet me you're out of luck. I'll be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, though, if you're determined.
>>149694394
Sadly, no. I miss that place a lot but had to move for work.
>>149694577
I do each of the drawings first and then make the full cards after. So I do focus on one at a time, but there's two "waves"
>>149690800
>All those card assignments
Jesus. I'm looking forward to mine, anon.
>tfw you were planning to grinch from the start
>>149695777

>>149694708
We really don't need 100 people asking the same question.
>>149681628
Hello anon, it's me, your assignment! I completely forgot about how impossible the show's are to find gifts for. If you havn't already, try mandarake and search for the series name in japanese.
If nothing pops up and you still need ideas you can ask the santas for additional info and I can put more.
How do you make Christmas cards?
Are they supposed to be full sized 8.5" x 11" pieces of paper? Do I fold? Where do I draw?
Am I retarded?
I don't think I have enough colors of construction paper for minimalist cards. Do you think it would be okay to print the pieces off using card stock?
>>149696108Yes you are.:P
>>149695627Could you ask Santaloli to provide your 2014 recipient with your updated address, so I can send you a card?
>>149696108
>>149696147
Here's another image. You can make them as big as you want. I'd just take a normal sheet of 8.5x11 and fold that in half. But make sure it fits in your envelope first.
>>149696164
Are youMW? If so, I'm sending you a card this year again!
>>149696108
I take a 8.5x11 piece of cardstock (thicker paper) and fold it in half. I then make it smaller so it fits in the envelope.
Draw on the outside, but you can draw inside too.
>>149696215Yes I am! I also moved, but I put my return address to the card I sent you last year - but now I don't know if you got it...
>>149696147
>:P
Fuck off.
>>149696416
Why so salty?
>>149692470

>>149696851
>>149679444
Also, I should mention, I'm in Law School in the next state over. I'll be home in time for Christmas, but not until the 22nd, so don't worry if you don't see your gift posted until near the end. I'm not snubbing you.
Probably.
Anyone have experience making wood cutouts? What kind of knife is good?
>>149690800
>JA of TX
I'll wait patiently for your card anon!
>>149697619
I would recommend using asharp one.
Would anons hate getting Sega/Prize figures? I'm in the $50-75 range and was hoping to get my anon a few things but a higher end figure would near enough be the whole budget, whereas I could get 2 prize figures and still have some money left over to spend on other things
>>149697703
The LL prize figures actually look pretty good, so I wouldn't mind getting a few. But 1 big gift leaves more of an impact. So it may be the better option even if it does take up most of the tier.
>>149697703
As a buyfag, I'd rather have a nice scale. But a couple of years ago I gave my 10-25 assignment prizes figures, some goods and chibi figs, and he was super happy.
>>149697832
>>149697884
If you were idolanime fans (I'm not but I know my anon likes that stuff/these characters) would you be content with picrelated and >>149697703
It's a cheaper scaled figure but it looks pretty cute to me and would leave me a tiny bit to just add some filler tooI'm super nervous and don't want to disappoint my anon
>>149698079
If they were characters I liked, then sure.
>>149690800
>INITIALS FINALLY
>>149698079
Both?
With Anzu alone, I'd be plenty happy.
>>149698079
That's a very cute Anzu that I'd love to get, same with the Nico. But I'm biased since I love them both.
>>149690800
>>149698258
>>149698262
Thanks anons! I'll get them both after double checking there's not any alternatives I like more
>>149697703
Personally that outfit is my least favorite of all the LL prize figures.
>>149698363
Fuck, I really have to get around to watch this.
>>149697703
Personally I'm a slut for articulation, so a prize figure would do nothing for me.
>>149698490
If you're a buyfag mulling about in the $25-50 range looking for quality, you're probably going to get disappointed.
>>149698454
What do you think of this one anon? Looking at Nico in particular and as a stranger to LL I just associated red with her more
>>149698490
Hoping the scaled figure and other treats will make up for it, I just wanted to get 2 things at least that I hope they like especially and I'm only in the $50-75 bracket (And I'm stretching that alittle since I just decided that I'd do £50-75)
>>149698580
Nope! I'm in the higher bracket. 75-100.
>>149698696
Snow Halation > *
>>149696605
You will receive cookies filled withlove.Didn't scarfanon try to make some plushies one year? Maybe you could ask him.
>>149696614
You have to enjoy keeping the secret in secret s/a/nta. I like imagining my anons are sitting there, scouring the archives for any sign of themselves, slowly losing hope as the days roll by.
Then, at rock bottom, just days before christmas, my well-timed package arrives full of gifts and handmade treats, and the long awaited release of tension fills them with joy and adoration ten times the amount than if they knew all along exactly what would happen.
>>149698759
Tempting anon, thanks for the input I didn't see this one before, still might get >>149698696
but I won't be getting the original one I looked at now as I think these two look better
>>149696108
First find envelopes, then, cut out card stock and fold it so it fits in the envelope you've bought. Congratulations! You now have a card on which to put all your assignments wishes and dreams!
Anyone knows what shows Santafaggot likes? I really wantneedto start working on a card for him but I am obviously at lost in there.
>>149698755
Right, but the anon asking about the Sega prize figures is not, which probably makes your opinion on articulation unhelpful.
Then again, I misread his bracket, so a pox on us both.
>>149698944
He likes multiple waifus and poorly formatted wishlists.
>>149698696
I say snow halation, mogyutto, and angelic angel are my favorite prize figure outfits. But that's just me personally.
>>149698985
That's what I have heard.
>>149698944
He mentioned here >>148738489 that he likes Horizon and Kaguya Wants to be Confessed to. But I don't really remember anything else. You might be able to dig something up in the archive. Or just email him.
>>149698944
He seems to always post with Eva, Persona 4 or Touhou pictures, so maybe those to play it safe.
I'm probably gonna ask anyway when I e-mail for his address.
>>149699035
>Horizon
I wonder who his favorite Musashi is
>>149698837
I think i will follow your steps this year anon.
almost done with cards, just need to write inside one more.
I'm having difficulties with gifts, most of the shows my anon likes either have little to no merch or everything is way above the price bracket.
>>149691996MR
Here's a general question to everyone:
I can't draw, but could write an original story based on an anime/manga you liked, would you enjoy that just as much? Would you prefer it printed out or put on a flash drive/ shared online?
>>149699679
For a card I would prefer a card.
There is a guide for handicapped anons: >>149696147
>>149699679
Could it be alewdstory?
>>149699679
So a fanfic?
>>149699679
I would like that, but it is no replacement for the card.
>>149699679
I think you will get mixed reactions when it comes to fanfics. And it would be no replacement for an actual card. You don't have to be any good at drawing, just so as long as you put effort into it.
I think it was discussed in another thread, but what is the concensus on damaged box items? I ordered something from Mandarake and it's arrived with noticeable damage. The figure is fine, but the box is damaged.
>>149700158
Who cares about the boxes?
As a rule of the thumb, would you be happy with it? If so then your anon probably will as well. If you wish mention it and apologize on the card.
>>149700158
Most people don't care about the box at all. Nips are super anal about it for collectors value, but most burgerclaps don't really have a problem with it.
>>149700158
I prefer my boxes in good/like new condition.
But if it was a gift, I would not care at all.
>>149699679
I would never ever plug in a USB drive from some random place.
>>149694951
>>149697655
>>149698230
>>149698346
these 4 anons now get a nice surprise with their card.
>tfw shipping+import tax is as much as the gift
I'm just going to go way over budget and be done with it
>>149690800
AM here, hope my taste isn't too shit brahTJ of GASorry, I don't think I'll be able to get anything handmade done pal, been working 50 hour weeks here lately for the holidays, and I'm starting to worry I won't even get cards done now. If you see this, is there anything more specific you'd like? I don't want to get you shit, ya know?
>>149696851
This is my first time doing /ss/, so I hope you're happy. I can't really guarantee my card will be any good at all...
>>149700362
I missed it didn't I? When is/was the cut off date?
>>149700658
10 months too early.
>Initials posted from three different anons saying my cards were/are going to be sent
>Still waiting on Santafagot to sent me the last two of my four assignments after his program fucked up
>Still need to mail the two cards I finished
I feel bad.
>>149699679
>>149700361
This. Print it out and I'd be fine with it as long as it's a cute story and you properly portray my waifu
>>149699679
I hate fanfics. I personally would be incredibly disappointed. Especially if you tried to sexualize or ship my favorite characters who are pure as snow.
Another bright day inSloveniyastanand another day to color. All that is left is to conjure words of Christmas wishes for my /a/nons.
>>149678902
Top notch anon, but grandpa and I are pretty close.
>>149685052
Same here.
Although, I have a few extra drawings. If I post one of those, I won't spoil anyone.
>>149699734
>>149700970
I would have to have watched the anime or read the manga to feel good about writing a story, and I think I'd know whether to make it lewd or not based on that. But it seems like most people wouldn't really like it so I guess I'll drop that idea. It would come with a card and actual gifts of course, I just have a lot of free time and like to write.
>>149700741
Christmas is still a long time away, anon, don't feel pressured or shitty. Take your time and do it at your own pace. Even if they're a little late it's still appreciated.
>>149701043
Maybe instead of a fanfic, you can do a little short story picture book/comic of anons waifu doing something Christmasy. Make it corny and rhyme everything to add that extra Christmas spirit.
>>149701043
Well, I would be disappointed with a fanfic, but I'd be okay with like poems and stuff.
>>149700362
>>149701203
This. Don't just type up some story and print that shit out or put it on a USB drive. Maybe consider a small book format with some hand-strung ribbon binding or something. I wouldn't consider the story to be of any monetary value though but something like an extra goodie add-on like in lieu of a card. Still, make it visually related to the waifu.
>>149701368
>>149700637
Just gotta know who these two are and thats it
>>149698230
>>149698346

>>149701431

>>149700741
>I feel bad.
Don't. I routinely agonize over making cards just right and picking out good gifts to the point where I end up having them sent out last minute. Never had anything arrive late but I probably make my assignments worry.
>>149701431
I'm notVPofFL, but I was his santa a while back and he's a pretty good guy.And if he reads this, I'll be sending that letter I promised and a small handmade gift when I have the money for shipping. When that'll be, I'm not sure, but I haven't forgotten.
>haven't received initials yet
Am I going to get grinched?
>>149701483

I'm only spending $76, not including shipping, in the $75-$100 bracket
>>149702282
You're a mean one.
>>149702282
I hope you're adding in extraloveto make up for the difference.

>>149702361

>>149702282
The absolute madman.
When does everyone plan to send their packages? I don't want to send too early.
>>149678902

>>149702453
No such thing as too early. Worst that happens is your anon can't hold it in and opens it early and we all get to mock him.
>>149702453
I'd say early dec.
>>149701431
Is it a good surprise?
>>149690800
>BFofAZ
Oh shit. Are you the santa who asked me about food allergies in the santa yui thread?
I know its Secret Santa and all, but does anyone put a return address?
my anon lives in the same country as me so it wont be that bad but still i worry since its a lot of presents i dont want to go missing but at the same time i want it sekrit.
>>149703647
The idea is to try to keep it anonymous, but a return address and info is fine, there is this unwritten rule of disregarding such information unless specified otherwise.
Some anons like sending thank you cards to their santas, so there is also that.
>>149670755
>one assignment has shit taste
>other provided a list mostly comprised of shows I haven't watched
I'll do my best to watch some of those shows I haven't and of the ones I have I'll do my best to find gifts for both my anons. I hope they like the presents I'll eventually get them.
Also if I get stuff from Mandarake, which store is the biggest/usually has the most variety? I've only ever ordered from them once and that was for last year's /ss/ and limited it to one store.
I'm thinking about sending baked goods for the first time, does anyone know how long they'd stay good for in the mail, and if there's anything I should specifically avoid making/doing/using as ingredients to keep it as fresh as posibile?
>>149703647
I do it in case there is some fuck up with delivery or something and it needs to get sent back.
>>149703647
I do it every time. Only because all my assignments live outside the US. And almost all the time they live in some third world, or at least somewhere that might as well be considered third world.
I also put on the requirement that it needs to be signed for on delivery. Specially last year I got a female anon that lives in Australia, and she warned me that all the ''aboos'' would jack shit off everyones from porch.
>follow the advice and trace a picture in photoshop, then print the tracing out
>realize that I don't even have a completely black pen to draw over the printed out lines
Well, that was wasted lines.
>tfw my anon's wishlist
>"all I want is Saber"
>>149678902
Some cards just make mine look like trash. For my anons, I'll try my best and give you something decent-looking.
>One of my card anon wants a kiss in his card
> No initials
I know it's probably for the best but I'm still a tad jealous
>>149704606
About a week, give or take a day. I would avoid making overly soft, crumbly cookies or crispy ones. Packages get handled pretty roughly, so fill in the empty space of whatever container you use so they don't shake around too much.
I've had great success that way sending various cookies, brownies/bars and even scones.
>>149705200
You know what to do.

>Not in mail box saying apartment office has two packages for me.
>Head to apartment office to pick up packages.
>"We have two packages for you...also the postal worker had a package that was too big to leave here and we couldn't get ahold of you."
>Hands me pink slip saying that a package is waiting for me to pick up at the post office on Monday
Two things:
1) Oh man I hope it's from my santa.
2) WTF did they put in there to make it so big that they couldn't fit it in the closet where they keep all the other packages for other tenants?! Unless they went full ham and bought a TON of stuff.
>>149707533
It could be a length issue. Posters in particular really screw up package size. It's a loli. You are getting a loli for Christmas. She's fat.

>>149707584
I did put in my wishlist that I really like lolis. And her being fat would make sense, so she didn't starve.
>>149707588
If it is, that shit's getting used somehow. Not sexually. I like being able to poop normally and not wear an adult diaper yet.

Finished four out of five this weekend but I most likely can't work on them again before next Friday.
Even then I don't know if I want to ship them out next weekend already. It feels kinda early
>>149710640
Just homocards at the moment.
>>149698837
This guy understands the real meaning of /ss/.
>>149698837
>gift doesn't make it in time because of postal fuckery
>anon has no friends
>christmas is empty and alone
>no hopes or dreams, only death
Good job.
Is there a guide or something for making handmade things. I was thinking of brushing off my sewing skills and making my anon something.
Today I will remind them.
Anyone have PLAMOYA coupons at hand to share one?
>>149711733
>receiving is over in an instant
Citation needed, I'm still happy whenever I look at the things I got in previous years.
Giving is really fun as well though.
>>149711771
No, but I've got a great discount code for J-List(tm)!
>>149705200
At least it's easy to shop for I guess. Try finding non-shit merch for any T-M character that isn't a Saber.
>>149705034
So buy a black pen. Problem solved.
>>149711575
Google has a bunch.
>sent SantaFriends an email 4 days ago to tell the anon assigned to me that I need the gift before a certain date or else I wont be there to receive it
>no response yet
Do I email again and bother them or just post my initials in this thread and pray my Santa is reading right now
>>149715639
Both.
>too many bills to do gift brackets this year
>learning how to make calendars in indesign
>just realized that I can now make printable waifu calendars for my card /a/nons
Holy shit.
>>149715639
Did you say specifically you needed a response? My assignment sent me an update and I didn't say anything back because there really was nothing to say except "okay."
>Have almost 5000 yen worth of gifts
>since it's only three items, I just feel that it's not enough
>I'm in $25-50
Fuck it, I'm gonna go over the limits.
>>149716005
N-no I just assumed SantaLoli or SantaFaggot would respond with "Ok will relay the message"
>>149716346
You're already over the tier.
>>149716362
In my experience, they usually do respond.
>>149716406
>5000 Japanese Yen equals
>46.8713 US Dollar
>$46.87
>over the tier
Not yet, senpai.
>>149716471
Ah, burgerland.
>>149716471
It's really convenient this season that the exchange rate is decent.
>>149710640
Sorry if you missed my earlier post, I won't be running the unofficial late cards this year. I'm just too busy this year to dedicate myself to you guys.
Maybe someone else will do it. How hard could it be?
>>149690800JSofMAcould also be me. I won't be home until after Thanksgiving.
>>149717043
Oh okay, I understand.
Maybe it's best I take a break this year anyway. I can still participate in the threads.
Today I will make my anon's cards for sure! Today will definitely be the day. They'll probably get made today.
>>149717343
>Starting cards halfway in November.
I'm working really hard on a lewd anon's card right now.
I hope he likes it.
>>149717508
So? I bet a lot of people haven't started yet, and many more haven't finished.
>>149717508
I'm sure we're going to see a ton of people a 1-2 weeks before Christmas with all sorts of random excuses on why their cards and gifts will be late.
If you're usually busy towards the end of the month, know you'll be moving or know you won't be at the address you listed on the signup, I don't understand why you'd sign up in the first place.
>>149717508
I don't understand the problem. You have basically until the second week of December to finish and mail a card for it to get there on time, and that's very generously leaving room for any screw-ups in the system. The official date for first class mail (aka, most letters/cards) is the 20th.
>ordered presents for my Anons
>estimated arrival time is mid-December if customs doesn't fuck me
>otherwise it might take two weeks longer
Being in Europe is suffering.
>>149701431
I'mAfromNC
>>149717537
how do you know anon is lewd?
>Picked regular air mail without tracking
I like to live dangerously. They estimated the shipping time to be 5-12 days so I figured it would be safe bet
>>149718829
Because some of the things he mentioned were.
And now I'm pandering to them.
>>149718829
Not that guy, but I wrote that lewd is fine too on my card wishlist
It's a shame I don't share any tastes with my anons.
I did it! Managed to finish 6/6 drawings before my personal deadline! And now I feel a hole in my heart cus I wanna keep doing shitty drawings.
>>149718991
Same here, but I don't know if it's just me, SAL packages usually arrive fast or on time (7-10 days at most) around this time a year, but after thanksgiving it does slow down greatly. It's like they want to get everything out of their way before IT starts.
>>149721183
>And now I feel a hole in my heart cus I wanna keep doing shitty drawings
You could ask santaloli for the return addresses and wishlists of your cards to send them a thank you card back.
>total worth of all items on cart at cdjapan is 8500 yen
>I am given all the shipping options available there
>add ONE yen worth of merch
>suddenly my only shipping option is express SAL/tracking, at 16000 yen, making everything go over 24500 yen
EVERY. DAMNED. TIME.
GBfromCA, my local post office opens tomorrow So i will be able to send you your gift tomorrow.
alsoAnonymous AfromILyour card will be shipped soon.
>>149721962
I was lucky. I was able to get free two day shipping sinceI signed up for a free trail at amazon prime. Anyways, just get rid of the one yen item.
>>149721962
If that 1 yen item is making such a difference, wouldn't it be cheaper to add it to a new order instead of the same one?
>>149722703
What I'm getting at is why adding something fairly inexpensive blocks me out of the other shipping options?
>>149722976
Yea it doesn't make sense.
>>149722976
Because dimension and/or weight? This things add up. What did you add?
I emailed Santaloli about a missing assignment about a week ago and she still hasn't answered.
How often can I write mails without being too much work? I'm worried.
>all this time I was scanning for GA for initials
>realized that I moved to SC since last /ss/
>>149723251
Bought CDs and wanted to add some manga, but it didn't really matter what I added, it always blocked me out of every shipping option save SAL/tracking which costed 3 times what I would have spend on merchandise alone.
>>149723735
If you want japanese manga, then I suggest checking amazon jp. For example you can get vol 1-13 of yotsuba for only 2,000 yen plus shipping (aprox 1,200 yen).
tinyurl com/jpoh5s5
>>149723402
How do you not realize you no longer live in GA after all this time?
>>149717508
I do all my cards in photoshop, I usually do it over thanksgiving break and send it out then too. I don't think people should be getting christmas carrds in November, it's just too early to be seasonable.
>>149724807
This is my 3rd /ss/ and after 11 years in GA not being there is still new to me.
I'm also not too bright.
>>149717508
How do you do you cards then?
>sign up for poverty bracket
>my gift value is about 20$
>somehow feeling like i should spend more
Is anyone else getting the same feel ?
>>149727422
I know that feeling. Which is why I am sending a big bag of candy from my local candy store with my gift
>>149727422
We all know that feel. You think to yourself, "Wow, I could make my giftee that much happier if I just spent X dollars more!"
>>149715639
Are youKBofNC?
I'm in the $75-100 bracket and I just spent 250 on my /a/non. This motherfucker better not grinch on his giftee - I know where he lives after all.
>>149727422
This your 1st?
>>149724597
Not that anon, but do they ship manga overseas?
RBfromUKdo you exist!?
>>149728826yes and the fact that you know this means that the message was delivered and I am worried for nothing?
>>149729553
Amazon does, but 3rd party sellers might not. I bought some from them last year and the shipping was really fast.
>>149730481what are you even panicking about
>>149730913
Just want to open my gift on Christmas and post it in the Christmas thread. Last year my gifts arrived on the 23rd, so I was worried the same might happen again this year but this time I wouldn't be around for it.
It's hard to decide if I should buy a bunch of things from my assignee's wishlist or forego one of them to get something that's more of a surprise.Maybe I'll just do both
>>149731806
Personally I think if you're already getting them some things from their list then a surprise is the better choice
>>149719325SLfromFinnland
If it's you i'm making your card right now
>>149726059
By agonizing over my perfectionism. I've redrawn so many times;-;
>>149733146
I'm bad at drawing myself so I try to make my drawings simple and easy to draw. You don't have to make a masterpiece for the cards you know?
> Want to send pastries from a godlike bakery
> They probably wouldn't survive the trip
Anyone have any ideas?
>>149733409
you can always try individually wrapping them and surrounding them with foam. i've done that before and it works about 70%
>>149733409
What kind of pastries? Some will handle shipping better than others.
>>149711575
Youtube. Seriously there's tons of videos that show exactly how to do stitches and so on, and it's far more helpful for practical activities than reading and looking at diagrams. Just be aware some of the craft channels are extreme mouthbreathers and shouldn't be watched with headphones.
Crochet is a bitch though, if you can't get it right when you understand the video don't despair. Knowing what to do doesn't always translate into skills because of the angle and motions that keep everything from slipping. You have to just get used to it.
>>149733409
maybe send a padded box with a fragile label?
What pastries are you sending?
I'll participate in this one of these days. I'll make sure to do it before i kill myself.
>tfw grinched
>>149733409
I hope you're my santa.
>make purposely ambiguous list to guarantee contact from Santa and not get grinched
>no initials, no emails
didn't think I'd get grinched 3 years in a row
>>149733795
Maybe you should have rethought out that ambiguous list plan
>>149733614
>>149733682
Cheese rolls, muffins, so on. Sounds pretty standard but the place is amazing.
>>149733500
I'll try it out and hope they last. Probably ship close to Christmas and pray for an Xmas miracle.
>>149733860
>Cheese rolls
You probably shouldn't send dairy. It'll go bad without refrigeration very quickly.
>>149733825
made a list with 20 anime the year
made a list with over 45 last year
made a list with 8 this year
what the hell do I have to do?
>instead of the small book store let's go to the big craft warehouse!
>"We got no red card, sorry."
You what
Wasn't even a case of empty shelves, their pastel pack and regular pack had the same colors. They had enormous cardboard reindeer heads but no Christmas themed card packs.
>>149733945
True enough. Guess I'l stick to muffins and such, still a ton of things to spoil my assignment with.
>>149733945
If it's cheese scones they'd last a nuclear war without a fridge. And crispy enough cheese coatings last longer than the puff pastry they're on.
It's gooey stuff you worry about.
>>149707586
>18k USD
I bet it was that anon asking about spending over the bracket.
Finished drawing all my cards. I've spoiled it so if your name is below, you might want to skip it in order to maintain the surprise.SHfromFLEBfromQBJTfromONMAfromMexicoMWfromONJSfromBCMfromQB
>>149733984
>all I want for Christmas if for senpai to notice me
My assignment sent me a list of 4 anime with nothing listed. I feel no need to contact them.
>when your initials get mentioned
>followed by a string of insults
Just let me forget
>>149734097
>cheese scones they'd last a nuclear war without a fridge
explain
>>149734537
Ha, was it because of your shit taste?
>>149734682
Scones are akin to rocks you can eat. More so than rock buns really.
>>149734773
If that is the case, then I should consider sending scones next year.
1/6 done(ish)
Can probably ink and colour one more tonight. My straight up red marker has gone missing, which is unfortunate.
>>149735074
Holy shit anon you put me to shame with those cards. Incredible job.
>>149731103I'm probably going to have to send yours earlier, that's all that means to me now. I always liked sending mine last minute desu.
I'm still gathering your gifts. I am throwing down lot of small and big stuff, I hope you like it.Pic not related
>>149735074
holy shit
>>149734808
It just occurred to me that they might not be the same in other countries. The scone I'm referring to is flour, butter and milk, usually with sugar and currant mix added, then served with butter or cream, and fruit conserve. The amount of butter used is small and they tend to be tough on the outside, and slightly flakey inside.
Rock buns on the other hand use an egg, and are meant to be cheapo cake. They're more likely to have spice mix or orange peel added. They probably last a little longer than other cakes because the outside is cooked harder, and less egg.
Here's a small guide on how eggs affect the basic cake mix.
>>149735074
Fug that looks nice
>mfw I could've spent the last 10 years practicing and honing some skill or talent
>just spent it fappingIs it too late to start for an anon in the cake zone?
I think what I ordered for my anon doesn't match their updated wishlist so I'm going to add something more that will definitely end up going over the bracket, but I feel better sending something I'm confident anon will like.I hope.
>>149735074
That's really good.
>>149734682
Cooked or fermented dairy lasts for a long time because the bacteria that produce it in the first place eat most of the nutrients needed by other, more harmful bacteria that cause it to decompose. Plus, it generally has a much lower water content, which helps stave off infection. Why do you think people even bothered to make cheeses or yogurt in the days before refrigeration?
It's the same reason alcohol was an important discovery. Keeping fresh water stored and sanitary used to be much more difficult, so people would use it as either a means of preservation in lower ABV% beverages, or use spirits as a disinfectant or preservative.
>>149735074
I need to brush up on my drawing and coloring skills.
>>149735595
No it's not, especially if you truly dedicate yourself to it (6+ hours of learning/practicing a day)
>>149735595
There's always hope anon! You just need to draw and practice all the time!I'm also in cake zone, but have been drawing since I was a loli
>>149735715
>6+ hours of learning/practicing a day
Christ I don't even have that much free time in a day. Being a wageslave is suffering.
>>149735986
Remember anons, if you start now, you can get about half as good by the time anime dies.
>>149736038
You can still do it but without treating it like it's your job/full time hobby you won't get there anytime soon, if you can get 2 focused, proper hours in a couple of times a week while learning from resources you'll improve pretty quick as well though
>>149736038
Not him, but as long as you continue to put effort into it you will see improvement. It's just that the more effort you put in, the quicker you will see results.
>>149735595
Come here and we'll fix that cake issue of yours with my all natural cream, if you catch my drift.
>>149736226

>>149711448

>>149711545
I haven't had a gift be late in 5 years of participating. I said a few days before christmas, not ON christmas, and I account for any possible delays outside of random catastrophes.
I get my fun out of it, and they get theirs (when I deem fit).
>>149736455
Not really, but my all natural cream is thick, savory and full of love.
They say it gives birth to new life too.
>>149735715
What exactly would you practice during 6 hours?
>>149736627
Actually drawing, physically sit there and draw stuff, try draw a chibi (simple) version of your waifu 100 times, watch youtube tutorials on how to draw people, stuff like getting the proportions right and things like that
>>149736627
drawing cute girls and boys of course.
I do drawing marathons during deadlines sometimes.
>>149736581
>Not really, but my all natural cream is thick, savory and full of love.
Do you use extra eggs to make it like that?
>>149735595
The most important thing is how you approach it. If you like solving visual/practical puzzles then investigating the world and figuring out how to represent it may come more naturally to you. People who get held up thinking of drawing as foreign territory they can't throw punches at and make mistakes in don't go anywhere fast.
Many people pick up painting in retirement and 'discover' a miraculous talent they never had before, but the truth is they probably gave no fucks about messing up and tried enough things to find what worked for them.
In the cake zone you have an advantage on teenagers who are concerned about always showing their best work, and may not be able to identify their own areas of progress. Your brain is literally better built at this stage and can make better assessments of what you should tackle next, and even basic shit like how 2D works in a 3D environment. Tons of artists who start as kids crawl as a snail's pace through parts of their teens because brain development throws them off.
If you mean it start making spheres and tubes that feel like objects on napkins and whatever else, and you're one step closer to building something. If you can't even make a neat line or circle then switch your grip and try more until you can. There's big sweeps, little sweeps, small ticklings, and everything between and together you can do with a pencil
so try it.
>>149735986
I don't mind cake

And a hint on making sketched objects feel 3D or weighty: you can use as many lines as you like, nobody can stop you but yourself. If going one way on that path doesn't seem right, turn around and go the other. There's a lot of useless paper in the world for you to cover in every variation possible.
>>149736916
Thank you. I'm always spouting this stuff because even when Loomis asks people to make their own using what they've been given, people tend to hold back like they're afraid it's deviating to reapply things instead of politely copying. Drawing is like most crafts; if you learn how to make one thing you can reuse it in other places or alter it to suit your needs somewhere else. Using what you know it can become something totally different so long as you act, and it's easier to act on ideas in drawing than it is in wood or textiles. It's complicated sure, you can't deny the scale and scope of the world around you, but drawing is finding ways to express that and you can be as concise as you like.
Jesus christ I write a lot when I have a fever.
another week, still no initials. maybe ill have better luck next weekend. Fuck all of you who dont post initials.
