I still can't quite get over all the wasted potential whenever I see OT3 art.

At the same time, looking at the route the show took, it was probably better for Fairy to do his own thing. Him being a third-wheel because of Victor's favoritism was one of the things I really didn't want.
Still, the Yuuri/Fairy interaction from episode 3 is still one of my favorite things from the show so far.

I think the other thing is that Yuri's still really young (he's 15, right?), and the creators wanted a more mature relationship between Victor and Yuuri. Yuri's at that age where he's going to be jealous, but his feelings towards Victor are probably different than Yuuri's are (platonic/admiration love rather than potentially romantic love).

I don't think Victor and Yuuri will end up in a relationship and I think at the end of it Yuuri will realise he's worth something and that he can actually stand on his own and it'll be thanks to Victor that he had an amazing last season etc. I ship them and I want them to eat katsudon together but I'm aware they're just being teases.

I'm definitely in it for the next-level fujoshibait though, and I'm not complaining. But if we're talking realistic outcomes, I think it'll be something like the above.

It's actually kind of interesting that Fairy's jealousy towards Victor favoring Yuuri is played for comedy mostly. Meanwhile, Yuuri was the one who seemed more seriously jealous over Fairy's interaction with Victor saying he's more confident and can speak to Victor normally and wasn't just looking at him as an idol.

I think the fujoshibait route they took with Victor/Yuuri is what would lead Fairy to looking like a (comedically) jealous third-wheel no matter what had he stayed and I prefer the more serious route they took with him at this point even if he still has some jealousy scenes every now and then.

The only time I actually see Victor/Yuuri's relationship as "mature" is when they have serious moments like at the beach. I do think because of the age gap and the competitive way Fairy views Victor would've prevented Victor from showing vulnerability towards him so casually. I get the feeling Fairy understood Victor more than he gave him credit for, but Victor and Yuuri seem like they can relate to each other more right now with the confidence issues and Victor's age complex. This could have lead to Fairy feeling left out, but they could have also played it as him not understanding their "old man" issues and them comedically commenting on him being lucky to be so young and naive or something. A parents/kid relationship could have been really cute.

Anyway, I think the three could have had interesting interaction had the writers wanted it, but the way it's being played out so far Fairy doesn't seem like he fits with them as a trio even if he has good interaction with everyone because of the duo dynamic they are playing so hard with Victor/Yuuri.

Biggest wasted potential for me is probably the Fairy/Yuuri interaction though. Episode 3 was very cute and already made it seem like they could develop their own bond. It's nice how they both seemed much more mature and serious around each other and the helping scene where they scattered once caught was ace.

To me, them playing Fairy's jealous as comedy last episode felt a little insulting because it's like they are literally downplaying his feelings as a joke for the sake of Victor/Yuuri fanservice and it made me roll my eyes.

I can somewhat excuse it because he is a kid and is known to have a temper, but I hope they don't push it too hard from now on.

I love the idea of him being a worthy rival and him and Yuuri pushing each other to overcome their individual weaknesses because of the rivalry or something as Fairy already has an interesting setup for it that I don't see a lot with rival characters because of what his seiyuu mentioned. I was just weary of him being played as a serious rival instead of friendly rival/training partner because it's always very predictable who wins and I wanted a more fair storyline than that.

I'm hoping for the best and seeing where things go, but with they way things are going right now I feel like the best I can hope for is for JJ to win and Fairy and Yuuri to just become better people in the end. Would love for them to interact some more as well.

It feels like Yurio winning isn't really necessary in this competition, and in that case, him actually winning doesn't feel like it carries the same weight as Yuuri.

Yurio has like, 5+ years before he's at the same point as Yuuri in his career, he doesn't need to be in a huge hurry to win gold, and indeed, him winning in his first seniors competition seems a little unlikely, especially considering that Yuuri apparently made him face the reality that the senior skaters are actually going to be big competition for him.

All he 'needs' in this comp is to get attention, if he places at all, his goal will basically be met, he wants to make a splash at his first competition, but winning it isn't needed for that to happen.

Whereas Yuuri's implying that if he doesn't do really well in this competition, he'll retire. He's well into his career as a skater already, and doesn't really have anything to show for it. In contrast to Yurio, he NEEDS a win in order to stay in skating properly, if he loses, that's pretty much it. Even placing in this context will feel like a let down given how much Victor has hyped up Yuuri's potential and raw talent, even compared to Yurio.

It's so obvious about Yuri and "his win" and the reasons why Fairy shouldn't, I can't like it. Maybe it they were more subtle with this or not so much in your face "Look, if Yuri doesn't win, he will retire. It's the end. No more" while "And Yurio has so many years to become better, he just needs some attention now but he will definately get there later on" that it feels flat on me.

Adding Victor in the equation and you have a very good mix of why Yuri should win because "he can't lose now that he has his Victor beside him. He is giving it his all!!'

I think that he's hurt by the situation but given his personality he reacts the way he does. I just hope it's touched upon in a more serious manner eventually if at all.

I don't think that's too much, as we see, it's a pretty professionally minded decision, that's what this competition comes down to. Yuuri is, what, halfway through his career? And still hasn't had a proper win, shit, he hasn't even done -well- in any competition finals. It makes sense that he would set this 'rule' for himself, as at this point, he needs something to make himself keep going, and in that sense, it works for the character and the world this is set in.

Whereas Yurio, ((even though he wants to, and will certainly try to win)) has shown to be outmatched by Yuuri and faced the hard realization that he's facing actual competition now, I imagine he'll do really well after his re-training, and will probably be a huge competitor for Yuuri, but overall, considering the level of the other athletes here, or at least, they're implied level, makes me think that at best, he'll place, and again, that's all he NEEDS to do, it may seem cheap from a story stand point, but again within the world, it's something of a realistic 'fallback' plan for Yurio, because as we know, this isn't 'life or death' for him like it is for Yuuri, and his main goal in this competition is to get peoples attention, NOT necessarily to win.

Actually, if it was just this, and Yuuri was a bit younger than he is now, I'd be way more accepting of him losing or at most, placing in the finals, having the 'genius coach' thing doesn't feel like as much of a reason for Yuuri to win as say, his age does. If Victor was the only big factor here, the end result of Yuuri placing at all would be a 'victory'.


As it is, I know it's kind of a knock against the show to say, but it seems like the creators of the show didn't make it with the idea to play with your expectations.

I don't mind Fairy not winning as long as he's on the podium, I just think everything surrounding Yuri's story is very unrealistic and biased and I can't get behind it at all especially when every character around him seems like a more serious and professional skater. I also don't think Yuri needs to win to have a proper character conclusion as his journey is mostly emotional and he doesn't need to win to learn to have confidence in himself. I would almost argue it cheapens it to make such a huge deal about him loving himself no matter what and then have him win anyway like it even matters at that point.

The fact that they've painted Fairy as a rival to this favored MC and pull the age card and "do or die" just make it seem that much more predictable and forced.
