The plot itself at this moment is nothing more than seeing if Fuuka can reconnect with Rinne. It's nothing complicated and if they want to focus more on the 2 characters rather than having a huge overarching story, then the plot doesn't need to move at a rapid pace.

The show isn't about when will they get to their destination, but rather HOW will they get there. And right now, it seems the route they've taken is to show just how serious the resolve is of both parties is, without skipping over the details. I don't think it was one. It seems weird how Jill showed zero concern throughout the match. That probably means that having Rinne take all that punishment was the gameplan going into the fight. She wanted her to show off how much Rinne's defense and endurance has improved.

Till this point, Rinne's bread and butter was her overwhelming offense. So if a couch was to plan against her, it would be to have their fighters take the initiative and keep her on the back foot. Her new showing off her new abilities causes the other couches to throw the plan out the window and put them in panic mode. So I think Rinne was supposed to take all those hits so that it gives her team a psychological advantage over her next opponents on top of any physical one. There's more to sports than just trying to beat the other guy. There are schemes and systems used to give yourself every advantage possible.

I was surprised I was right about where this show was going after ep4. I didn't know they said, 'it was going to get more brutal'. I predicted Fuuka's character for ep.5 almost to a tee.

But I didn't understand japanese in the end, I could only do so much. Another anon in these threads said the real translation of what Fuuka said in ep5 was 'I'm going to take 4years of everything'.

Fuuka will lose. Broken, she will smile up at Rinne, and for the first time in her life Rinne will understand she is retarded.
