Homura was too stupid to handle her situation well. A smarter kid would have had more patience and not given up so easily on explaining to the other girls what was going on. But she just let herself get shouted down even though she could obviously demonstrate to the girls that she had time manipulation magic and could have found ways of proving, over time, that she was who she said she was.

But instead she just made up her mind that the only way for her to do anything was to try and fight Walpurgis herself and keep Madoka out of everything without explaining why or answering any questions, simply because "if you didn't believe me before, you obviously won't now."

Ultimately the central tragedy of the whole series stems from Homura being a fucking moron.

She could have saved Sayaka and by extension Kyouko just by telling them the truth of the soul gems. She could just say "ask Kyubey and he'll tell you" and you know he would, too. They had no serious reason to doubt her other than Sayaka not liking her.
