Everything we know about non-shifter Titans seems to indicate they have no self-awareness. Diana likely had no idea what she was doing or it's significance, particularity given she'd never seen Carla together with Grisha.

Grisha, meanwhile, doesn't exactly have a bunch of shifter vials lying around and even if he does he doesn't command the logistics necessary to hunt down Diana and have her eat someone. I read the whole manga from the start again and finally understood the concept of the Utgard Castle arc. Erwin was trying to find out the other shifters after Annie was captured.

It would be interesting if Ymir didn't expose herself as a titan during the pivotal moment. Would Reiner's soldier instincts kick in and reveal himself as the Armored Titan just so he could save his comrades? Would Reiner and Bert remain as soldiers and wait for the titans to swarm in and wait for uncle Zeke to show up? I don't really see Bert transforming as the Colossus Titan, or leaping to his death for his teammates for that matter.

If it wasn't that important, Isayama could've gave a general explanation about the power in the guidebook, but he didn't get into that. Nah. YH shipper here, and I love the dynamics of their ship. They both came from rough backgrounds, but dealt with it in opposite ways - Y with the tough guy persona, H with the angel routine. I love that Y saw right through that to their similar core personalities, and in a strange, codependent way, they inspired each other to be truer to their actual selves. It took a long time, but in the Clash arc, they finally made themselves vulnerable to each other and found what could be the foundation for an actual healthy relationship. They inspire each other to be stronger people, to move past the betrayal they've felt all their lives.

I also love that their dynamic is a bit immature and fucked up; it's more realistic to have two imperfect people bring their own baggage to a relationship than to have them instantly click sparkles magic lovely romance wow. Now that they're separated, there has been room for them to mature and find themselves, so they can start to build a healthy relationship if they're reunited.
