The humour definitely feels harder, if that makes sense. And the place genuinely seems like a hellhole and the MC only added to it, that in itself is kind of funny in a way. Still, the show isn't bad. It just feels like a different take to me.

That's part of this Working cast's gimmick.
That's why this is the "Cat Team" whereas the other is the "Dog Team", as these guys are worse to each other than the previous team - though there's also the fact the other Working story was more than twice as long as this one, and thus those types of friendly relationships could be developed a lot better.

It IS a different style. The other Working series was a light comedy SoL with some romance.
This one has darker Japanese comedy, and is far more on the love comedy side.

By the time this season for WWW.Working is over, you'll realise that as far as romance goes, the previous Working series was the vanilla, puppy love type, whereas this one has actual romantic development, with actual noticeable sexual tension.

In the Neko-gumi you can really appreciate the roles of Poplar and Souma.
Poplar helped keep the peace, whilst Souma helped Satou and Takanashi to make some moves - he also helped Inami.

The Neko-gumi lack figures like them, and thus things are more rocky. It's even more painful in their case, since unlike the Inu-gumi girls who were good-natured, the Neko-gumi girls are fearsome, whilst the guys (excepting Higashida) are just submissive.
