There's no "canon" anymore, everything's canon in its own timeline. Prisma Ilya is an AU to the original Fate timeline (Zero-Stay Night-Hollow Ataraxia).

CP will probably spoil some things for you but it's better off knowing the source material anyway before watching it, including Tsukihime and melty blood. it's worth it though, CP is the crowning achievement of Type-Moon.

They did, in the mid 2000s. Why do you think that Tsukihime had Melty Blood and sequels? That was the Mobile game of the era. Instead of continuing the story in a VN, Nasu used a fighting game because it was what was popular. It's just it didn't have the staying power of Fate and never will.

Fate concept is what's popular, besides Saber just pretty much overshadowing Arc as main heroine. Fate also grabs people of both genders while Tsukihime only exclusively pandered to guys. Tsukihime was way too wrapped on Shiki to evolve, while Fate franchise can happen without Shirou. I watched it back in 2005, and it left me wanting for more. So, I looked it up and found pages such as Moonlit World, Beast's Lair (the original forum), /tm/ and it was around that time I started lurking 4chan.

It was because of that, that I got to read the Tsukihime VN in 2006, when the translation patch got released.
