just finished ultimate, actually, after forgetting about it when it was taking a million years for each OVA to release

ultimate on its own is the entirety of the manga; there's "hellsing: the dawn", which has 3 OVAs and is a tangential prequel that started after the manga was done, but apparently it's stopped regular release, too, which is disappointing.

just watch ultimate, and watch it dubbed. i really cannot think of any dubs that improve on the subbed version aside from black lagoon and cowboy bebop (and kenshin/dbz, but those are more to mitigate the terrible jap VAs for the main characters), but the hellsing ultimate dub is fantastic; it loses a lot subbed.

it's also hilariously, unapologetically edgy, but that's half the fun

Holy fuck this.
There is no anime that's better dubbed than Hellsing Ultimate.
Even the dialogue is improved with nuances and wordplay you could only wish were in the japanese version.

And the first anime isn't so bad for me, maybe because it was the first edgy animu I saw even it's a weird version of Hellsing that takes itself very seriously and lacks the manga humor , the second half of it had a directionless plot with characters appearing and dying that did little to make the plot more interesting , and a lame OC final boss whose motives weren't properly explained.
