I think it's an inevitability that Progressive will be animated.

The real question is if they'll merge the novel and manga together for it, or if it'll be a lazy novel adaptation.

Also, with how much more linear the story is, and the smaller timeskips, they could pad the shit out of it with filler and make a super long running anime.

From what I've seen from anime screenshots, he looks like he permanently has that "cool" face. the cool smile, cool scowl, cool grimace etc. I've never really seen him do any other kind of expression. I don't know if that's just Himura's expressiveness as a manga artist, or Kirito actually being written as being less "perfect".

With Progressive Kirito and Asuna are a lot more fleshed out as characters and don't feel as two dimensional. Kirito feels like a totally different character which, thankfully is a good thing.

They are pretty different characters, but anime Kirito does go through more shit early on, like losing his entire guild at one point. He starts the show pretty shy but as it goes his character changes quite a bit and he gets progressively more jaded until he meets Asuna, granted, after the first arc, the story is always wanking him.
He's a bit more awkward at the start in Progressive but he's not quite as shy as he was at the start of the anime, and then in Progressive he opens up to Asuna pretty quick too.
