So uuuh, who's watching this?
>>
Just you.
>>
>commie
I'll just wait for some fag to rip subtitles off Amazon.
>>
Around five people are watching this, and I'm one of them.

It's enjoyable so far.
>>
Will someone rip the sub from Amazon for episode two aswell? I don't trust commie.

>Shaoxing wine
What a bizarre combination.
>>
Why did Maaya Sakamoto fall out of fashion? Her two lines were so fucking good.
>>
What year is it? Why don't they digitize the dictionary?
>>
>>148813165
why the flying fuck would you trust amazon more than commie
>>
he thought he was going to go grab his pussy, but instead he got grabbed by that pussy
>>
Why are salarymen so cute? I want to devote my professional life to a long-term project with them.

>>148812316
That's pretty much what Commie does these days.
>>
>>148814472
Nice try faggot, but you won't fool me into downloading your shit.
>>
>computers with floppies
>giant mobile phones
Is this set in the nineties or what?
>>
>>148814502
I don't blame you.
>>
>commie
>>
>Commie
Is the deadfish release just a commie re-encode?
>>
>>148812209
Oldfags mostly in crappy jobs.
NEET never watch these kinds of shows.
>>
>>148814852
>Is the deadfish release just a re-encode?

What do you think?
>>
>only watching two anime this season
>both have delayed subs
Horrible has spoiled me.
>>
>>148813482
based on this
>>148814622
it's say it's before the internet/electronic dictionaries really became a thing
>>
>>148815404
Stella? and fune?
>>
>>148814852
It literally says "Subs: Commie" on the page.
>>
>>148812316
This. I don't need Commie's liberal memesubs for a show about making a dictionary.
>>
How do you define right as in direction?

The direction that the magnetic field rotates about a moving charge
>>
>>148815962
>>148815987
But how would a person who doesn't understand which side is "right" know what "north" "east" "magnetic field" mean?
>>
>>148815962
It seems counter-productive. Who knows north and east but not right? Practicality should be more important than making sure there are no technicalities someone could use to say you're definition is wrong.
>>
>>148816058
give em a compass
>>
>>148816097
You give a person a compass just to explain what "left" and "right" means? You could've just point to that person's right hand and say that's your right hand.
We are talking about a dictionary here, you must define it with words.
>>
>>148816058

Ok, the definition would take up a whole page in the dictionary.

There would be a big red arrow pointing to the top of the page, a blue arrow pointing right, and a black arrow pointing left. The text under it would read "Step outside, arrange book so that red arrow points towards the sky. Make sure you are standing on your feet for this one. Position your head so that if you drool the spittle drops directly towards your genitals while you still maintain eye contact with the book and everything on the page is clearly visible. Now, the blue arrow points to the right and the black arrow points to the left."
>>
>>148816127

The trick here is to use the constant direction of gravity to orient yourself. I've actually used this technique when programming accelerometers.
>>
>>148816127
Wait, what is "outside"?

>>
I would but I've already seen the movie. I'd probably be hyped as fuck about an anime like this if it was an original though.

Have you ever seen a big shiny thing in the sky, it might hurt your eyes to look at it for more than small amount of time? Its position changes over time but it seems to appear over and over again in one place and then disappear in the other place?

Let us refer to that shiny thing as the 'sun'. Let us refer to the period of time when the sun is typically visible as the 'day' and the period of time when the sun is not typically visible as 'night'.

If over a large number of days and in a given position the sun is not visible, you are probably inside. If it looks like night during the day, you are probably inside.
>>
>>148816294
And how many words do you plan on including in your dictionary?
>>
>>148816058
>>148816087
>you have to use words to define words
nice bullshit circular logic, fucking retard dictionary makers
>>
>>148816292
It's the definition of north. But this started with the definition of "right". Doesn't sound very useful to have to educate someone about the "north" and "east" before explaining the meaning of "right".
Not that I have a better one.
>>
How about the side [country]'s soldiers salute with?
>>
>>148816308

Probably only the first couple hundred words will require lengthy explanations. Once the basic vocabulary is built up then the explanations will become more compact. It will look like a normal dictionary at that point.
>>
>>148816328
Dictionaries for children would include many pictures to explain things more clearer.
As for regular dictionaries, I suppose they just thought it wouldn't be right not to include these very commonly used words, even though people looking up these words probably shouldn't be using that dictionary.
>>
>>148816368
The problem is, dictionaries are not read like regular books, nobody reads it from the beginning.
>>
>>148816475

Each page would have a disclaimer directing you to special section if you were getting confused by the more normal explanations found in the book. This disclaimer would be partially pictographic so you wouldn't need to know anything to understand it.
>>
>>148815927
The direction of Germanic languages end to.
>>
>>148815962
It really bugs me that this seems to be the best definition of the word. As I remember an anon said in a previous thread, how would you properly define it for someone in space, with no knowledge of planets and magnetic fields and compasses?
>>
How would you define this?
>Just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right.
>>
I'm so glad I picked this up. I can tell it is going to be good after these first two episodes. Definitely a season saver for me.
>>
>>148816547
I would buy your book Anon.
>>
>>148812981

>>

>>
>>148820254

>>
>>148812209
Will there be romance?
>>
>tfw /a/ isn't intelligent enough for this show
>>
>>148821481
It's literally just a man with autism defining words in his own way.
>>
I'd rather not watch it at all than watch Commie.
>>
>>148821455
yes
>>
>>148823140
That's pretty silly.
>>
>>148823140
Can you even understand it enough to see how commie does it?
>>
>>148824475
No, I'm only there to parrot what the japanese language exeperts on /a/ tell me.
>>
I like that/how they animate body language. This is something I miss in almost any other anime. Characters usually just move their mouths and eyebrows unless they're pissed or something. But barely any subtile things.
>>
>>148812209
>Sakamoto Maaya
I already love her.

Is [Davinci] gonna rip Amazon again this time, or are we stuck with Commeme for all eternity?

>>
>>148828273
That didn't answer my question at all, though.
>>
>>148825934
That's the reason I watch it, it makes the dialogue much more engaging.
>>
>>148828415
It makes your question pointless. Stop buying into /a/'s boogeymen blindly
>>
>female character

I guess the fujo audience all just left at this episode
>>
>>148828773
I was pleasantly surprised to find out this wasn't a fujobait series, I thought for sure it was going into the season.
>>
>>148828773
Let's be honest all the fujobaiting in the world wouldn't make this sell.
>>
>>148828773
It didn't have much of an audience to begin with.
>>
>>148828805
Hopefully it's good romance. We haven't had a good, non-harem romance in a while.

They added proper typesetting at least for ep 1. Can't tell if they edited the TL itself though.
>>
>>148829764

dumb lulucoposter
>>
>>148812209
Why are they planning on using the words with 2-circles instead of the triangle or no-markings words to build their dictionary?
What is the point of making a dictionary with words already present in all three major distionaries?
>>
This guy is fully autistic. I mean like he needs to come to /a/.
>>
>>148831029
So as not to replace common words people will want to look up with obscure ones no one uses, I guess?
>>
>>148831029
a dictionary full of only unusual words isn't as helpful as it sounds.
>>
>>148814622
Seems like the late 90s or early 00s.

Basically a better time.
>>
second episode was just as nice
>>
The cat is cute
>>
>>148812209
No one.
>>
Gave it a shot, couldn't finish the first episode. The entire thing is self-masturbatory. The episode bored me to fucking tears, the entire time I was watching I thought to myself, "who gives a shit about dictionaries?" It's really obvious the guy responsible for this anime had a dictionary obsession, but pushing that obsession on others does not a good story make.

and this is coming from someone who reads frequently
>>
>>148839756
Would love to hear definitions for "masturbatory" and "self-masturbatory".
>>
>>148839756
>the entire time I was watching I thought to myself, "who gives a shit about dictionaries?"
The characters. Have you really only ever partaken in fiction involving something you have prior interest in? That sounds needlessly restrictive.
>>
>>148839852
they mean the same thing, adding "self" in front of "masturbatory" is perhaps redundant but it highlights the single-minded nature of the premise, i.e. one person jacking off to his hobby nobody else gives a shit about

>>148839925
A lot of anime is about stupid trivial shit, but dictionaries is the stupidest trivialest shittest

and other anime about trivial shit usually doesn't take itself seriously
>>
>>148839756
I don't give a shit about dictionaries either, but I like it. The show is character focused, not about dictionary adventures.
>>
There is literally nothing wrong with commie subs.

I watch Fune wo Amu because it's one of the funniest parodies of "mature and meaningful anime" I've ever seen. My god, dictionaries! Such profundity! Such metaphors!

The fact that it seems to be entirely serious and also super well animated is just the icing on the cake.
>>
>>148843344
>it's one of the funniest parodies of "mature and meaningful anime" I've ever seen. My god, dictionaries! Such profundity! Such metaphors!
Underage faggot pls go.
>>
>>148843457
I too think "sea of words" is such a momentous idea that I need it spelled out to me three times an episode, while I am being show a literal sea made out of words.

Because you see, understanding this makes me clever.
>>
>>148843656
Isn't there a drifters thread up for you to be posting in
>>
>>148844098
Don't shit on Drifters man, I like it and still think that this poster is a faggot.
>>
To enjoy this show I mute the audio and watch it on 4x speed. The cloying music at every 'this is profound!' moment and the visual gimmickry are incredibly wearisome. If this director actually had confidence in a drama about people effusing over the emotional value of dictionaries, they wouldn't be trying so hard to artifically liven it up.
Good character animation though.
