It's not just overrated, it's complete and utter trash. Not even the action shone type of cookie cutter trash that's guaranteed to get popular among the masses, it's just objectively bad. The plot seems like it's written by a 14 year old until the point where it is revealed that everything's Titans, from there on out it's just full on "I never thought about where I wanted to go with this manga past chapter 20, let's just do whatever until it stops selling." The first couple of chapters got me quite hooked and seeing the crazy animated 3D gear scenes hyped me quite a bit for the anime. Major letdown when it was at least 50% stillframes of pan shots of irrelevant characters holding endlessly boring irrelevant peptalk speeches with only the mouth moving in the frame.

I don't hate it or its following, I feel extremely indifferent about it, but it boggles my mind how so many people are paying attention to it, positive or negative. It's literally the Game of Thrones of anime, I'll never understand why so many people care about it while I have such an easy time ignoring its existence.

I would have to say Attack on Titan.

It's a series that replaces Naruto in terms of tepid quality with a ravenous fanbase and inordinate popularity.

The entire series is just "new mystery" hamfisted together from start to finish so far, with bits of action thrown in and just enough plot to make idiots think the plotline is moving when all it does is introduce slightly more suspense and artificial political danger (due to its inability to suspend my disbelief that the core characters would be completely wiped).

I thank heavens that there were free scans for me to follow it up until Monkey Trouble to let me know it was just continued bullshit all around and Isayama and his editors are hacks.
