Studios that aren't producing original TVA have people who actively seek out source material to adapt. Popular LNs or manga might have several studios vying for the production rights simultaneously. OP's question is about why these people still seek to adapt shitty battle harem LNs despite them not selling very well after the market was inundated with them, the studio employees themselves get paid regardless.

In order to do that you'd basically have to look at the books of every single anime studio in detail and then generalize. It'd be a massive undertaking which would end up generating hardly anything worth knowing. You'd probably find that some studios make a lot of money through X and another through Y and some don't make any money at all have stayed alive for years by telling investors that they are just in a temporary slump and that they'll turn thing around next season and so on.

The only people that might give enough of a shit to justify such an investigation would be the tax collector.

Any time someone gives you a figure like "The anime industry makes X% amount of it's profits off Y" it's really just complete asspull figures. The figures today might be completely different from what they were ten years ago and there's nothing that says that it'll be even remotely the same ten years from now.
