Can I watch any of the spinoffs without having seen Duel Monsters first? If so, which one?

Though there are references to it in all of the spin-offs, it's not necessary to watch Duel Monsters to understand and enjoy all of them. You also do not need to watch the spin-offs in chronological order either.

GX and 5D's are in the same timeline as DM with GX even having certain DM characters as cameos and 5D's having a one-shot minor character from the magna as a supporting character.

ZEXAL and ARC-V are their own thing in terms of timeline/universes, and as >>148412272 said, ARC-V has alternate versions of characters from the other spin-offs.

Depends on your tastes, but I'd say ARC-V in terms of both series and card game as that series features all the extra deck summoning methods and then some. First 53 is overall superb, then dips in a range from a bit to severely, but it's now picking back up again as of 123.

In short, I'd say at least try the first few episodes of each series to see if it's your thing. Roughly the first 4 episodes for GX and ZEXAL, first 5 for 5D's, and the first 7 for ARC-V.

Forgot to mention, not much filler that I can recall for 5D's first 64 episodes. I haven't seen after that myself, so filler for that could range from good amount to all of it.

ZEXAL... I'll be honest, I've only seen the first 8 episodes of it and just can't bring myself to watch any more at the moment so I'm not exactly sure how much filler there is for it. I do know that general consensus is ZEXAL II > ZEXAL I. I could just follow this guide here, but I'm a completist when it comes to watching these.

ARC-V is still airing, so there's no definitive answer of how much of it all is filler until it's all over. From what there is though...

16 - 17 could be skipped, but it introduces a minor character that shows up later.

19 - 20 can be skipped with nothing of value lost.

A sizable chunk of 55 - 99 could be classified as filler when all is said and done depending if the main antagonist for that arc ever returns with any importance. There's still character development and a few episodes that relate to the main plot though, so it's not a full skip.

65, 76, and 100 have clip show recaps for at least half of the episode, but 76 does delve with the motivations of the characters narrating for its recap.

118, 120, 121, and 122 can be considered filler, though a couple of important things do happen, but it's better off reading the synopsis for them to save time. If you have to watch any of them, watch 120.

I want to get locked in an airtight school and fix him with reality checks. So I'm watching 5D's again the WRGP to be precise and dear lord 5D's is such a shitty team. They have no teamwork, no strategy, and none modified their decks so they can atleast flow better together. They all do their own thing without researching their opponents and actually changing up their line up. They should have lost to Unicorn a far more experienced team that has actual teamwork and still would have moved on. But nope Jean wouldn't end his fucking turn. And don't get me started on Raganork which seemed to be shoved in at the last minute to shill god cards and give 5D's rivals for the role of hero of the series.

Jack was originally supposed to be a very calm, collected person who had to be loud and obnoxious for his Duel King persona. It was supposed to show an actual fear of being presented as weak to public, which is why he acted cold and harsh to everyone, including Yusei. The pinnacle of Jack's development was him finally abandoning this idea that he has to be tough and cool all the time and finally admitting to Carly that he loves her, and regretting he didn't and couldn't do anything to save her because of his own selfish perspective. It's what made him absolutely human, and why the Jack vs. Carly duel was emotionally brutal.

And then episode 65 happened.

Well no shit he's not on their level. They literally shaped the manga industry in their own way, although I would say Urasawa is incredibly overrated and his endings are shit. But I'm talking purely about the YGO franchise.

But despite the manga's flaws it's still really fucking good for a shonen manga and even more so for a ygo storyespecially when compared to the other spinoffs.
