I would say that yes, I am somewhat pretentious and elitist, but I think that there may be a misunderstanding. What I was trying to say was that those shows do not require thought to be watched. I'm sure that you could write an essay on the sociopolitical situation in the Naruto universe, but it isn't necessary to apply thought to the show in order to enjoy the flashy noises and powers. I doubt that the same watcher putting forth the same amount of thought would be able to watch something like Lain or Tex.

It's kind of like picture books for children; while there are great picture books that have tons of though and emotion put into them, they must be expressed in a way that children can understand.
