THAT'S THE JOKE. You think there must be more to his powers, just like the monsters do. Then they die with an answer they're not satisfied with. It's a comedic effect. The insane power getting obtained by everyday workouts is absurd and silly. I wouldn't be surprised if ONE gives an actual reason later in the manga, but at the moment the only thing close to a canon answer is what saitama stated. And that's hilarious.

This is the only anime I have ever rewatched right after I watched it for the first time.
Saitama as a character is amazing, the fact that he is the most powerful guy yet he's humble as fuck and doesn't brag about his power makes him one of the most likable characters I have seen in a long time (if not the most likable ever).

Citation? As far as I remember it hasn't been confirmed, nor debunked. It is a legitimate theory, backed by Garou starting to break his limiter right before entering the transformation.
