They are called that to market a light reading novel that also gets published in multiple parts. Like young adult novels. You can have very simple sentence structure and a simple story but still have good writing. Light novels seem to have been written in a sitting by some kid who then never went back to correct mistakes, shit that is too long, or improving story elements in general. One of the most important things of writing is scrapping parts.

Same with VNs, some are nice but they are so overly long an abridged version would be 10 times better.

I'm not him and I don't SAO but if an anime leaves out some crucial scenes you might find yourself having to make a much lengthier post than you expected. It's pretty much not worth it to do that every time it comes up when the anime could have just included the scene and make everyone's lives easier or the LN could put it more eloquently without being an infodump and answer additional questions along the way.

I might as well explain it, it wasn't that long anyway.

If you're unfamiliar with SAO's story, it's the trapped in an MMORPG dying = dying IRL story.
So in episode 2, the leader of a boss raid, Diavel, goes and gets oneshot by said boss. But he doesn't die immediately. No, Kirito(MC) walks up to him and shoves a potion in his face, which he refuses to drink. Diavel then monologues about how Kirito can't give up since they're both beta testers or something. He dies with a potion literally in front of his face that he doesn't even attempt to drink, and when I said he refuses the drink, I don't mean that passively, he actually pushed it away before giving his dying speech.

In the LN, there's an entire subplot for that story that was cut out, and the main reason I told people to read the LN part of this instead, now that I think about it.
In any case, the death in the LN plays out similarly, he gets oneshot by the boss and lands near Kirito. The main difference here is he barely says a fragment of a sentence before he dies. No potion scene, no monologue.
