That's the thing, when I found out about this I really thought it would be about a cunning warlock with overpowered abilities in his quest for world domination. But after the first 2 episodes which I really liked the show didn't improve for me at all and after episode 4 it justdt went from 100 to 0. I don't regret watching it but I just have this feeling of wasted potential.

Ainzs' way of thinking is just too stupid for me, and his actions didn't reflect the hype that I'd built for this show. I tried reading the novel but I just can't force myself to real hundreds of pages of boring stuff with the hopes of maybe liking the series in the later volumes.

I agree with what you're saying, but the author also has to use some sort of hook to keep the reader interested in the novel. That's just absent for me, there's nothing telling me "this guy will stop fooling around soon and actually do some Alexander-like conquering and battles". The show just didn't go the way I thought it would, and that sucks for me because I really like the characters and the lore in this.

Not him, but while Ainz isn't stupid, he's certainly ignorant and misunderstands very easily. That's probably what that anon is criticizing as Ainz isn't actually bad ass, but an earnest guy who tries his best and spills his spaghetti all over the place but due to the way the story is written said spaghetti turns out as works of art and everyone proclaims he's a visionary. People will defend Ainz all day, but the fact is without his undead racial he would have outed himself as incompetent from the first fucking chapter, and the story would be quite different even if personally I don't believe the NPCs would betray him just because he turned out to be a total loser. He literally has a stronger Poker Face than Satou from Death March, it's a bit underrated when discussing hypothetical situations of whether or not Suzuki Satoru is a capable leader or not as it is a huge factor in how he is lucky.

It's awesome for us cause it's funny as hell, but for him I'm guessing he's not looking for humor, but rather a genuine conqueror who gets his way through his intentional actions.

Yes it wouldn't be fun to see him go and slave everyone in the first two volumes of the series, but that's where you could show how the personality of the MC handles his overpowered abilities. Yes that is where my basis comes from, but like I said even if they accept him, it'd be totally different as far as plot progression goes. I think another important part you're missing is that the NPC's were literally born yesterday. In a lot of ways they behave like kids. There's a reason why we call Ainz Papa Bones as he is the only responsible adult running the show. A true autistic 16yo self-insert character would have already tried to bone shalltear, albedo, or nabe.
You might also want to consider that a rampaging /a/utist like myself would have gotten steamrolled in the NW. Not for lack of power but because of ignorance. Suzuki Satoru's approach to conquest seems more reasonable by the volume. Just for that interesting twist I think the LN's are worth reading. The NW is harder than Ainz makes it look.

Even in the NW we see that the creatures Ainz's summons have a special relation to him, are infused with the will of their summoner and treated with respect accordingly. It doesn't matter if Ainz summoned a Death Knight because someone else said it would be a good idea, what matters is that it's a Death Knight created by Ainz.
Albedo was in a rather abnormal situation where two SBs had edited her settings before the transfer to the NW, thus her personality might be more conflicted because whatever miraculous process fleshed out her personality drew from both Tabula's and Ainz's vision. This might have led her to become more unstable than the other NPCs.

It's mostly just speculation but that's the point we were discussing.
