No, its about how genius is Wataru Watari and how LN authors not to be underestimated and him making bow everyone before his genius.

Also, after watching the producers talk about starting a new project i can truly conclude this is exactly how Qualidea Code came to life and her managers facial expression likely is Wataru`s self insert at the moment it was decided it becomes anime

I think more than a half of actually popular projects are decided and made like those two producers do their thing.

Qualidea Code had a potential to become a much bigger and popular project, if only it had proper animation quality and some luck.

>>
I don't think this is what WUG should have been about but I would love an idol show in this style.
>>
>>148311903
Yamakan is a fucking prick. It's not funny when he criticizes the industry.
This one is cynical but it doesn't have any actual malice towards customers or industry itself. Yamakan on the other hand has some kind of malice towards customers and the industry in his works, his interviews, his declarations, etc. That's the main difference and customers feel it, and that feeling actually alienates them and causes everyone to hate Yamakan and his works.
>>
>>148312183
>This is just cynical satire.
Even as a comedy, it leans more on what could be perceived as natural in such workplace, though: jealousy, apathy, arrogance. I think this elements could have been used against the WUP to show them reality, instead of an erotic corruption fantasy.

>>148312305
This makes sense.
>>
WUP couldn't really do much to change the girls themselves from typical nice idol girls because it was ultimately still selling the attached idol group. To show the 2D equivalent of the RL idols as cynical people that may hate their jobs, their fans or the people they work with would be a pretty harsh taboo.

That's one of its meaning and usage. It's not used like that in this case that place emphasis to the next word (がき). In context, you don't call a kid who's being bad/cheeky/rude a shit bad child/kid.

>>
>>148324058
Yes, but Chitose isn't comparing her to feces. She's comparing her cheekiness to an annoying/ill-mannered child. So brat works here. Kusogaki is widely used among adults to kids or those younger who they are close to in a familiar way, and it doesn't mean or translate to calling them little shits.

kusogaki used for that and kusogaki used for this is not an issue of context. They generally mean the same thing, which boils down to annoying/cheeky brat. That's a rewrite, not even an issue of the same word having a different meaning.

Isekai is the flavor of the month setting that stupid 13 year olds in Japan eat up and every talentless hack author jumps on board to write a story about in the hopes that it gets popular. If you\re reading isekai about a totally average Japanese boy who is kind of a loser and then goes to a fantasy world and uses any sort of knowledge from games or science he doesn't understand to get ahead and be super cool, then you should probably kill yourself.

Except memesubs that doesn't translate, but literally aim for memes and whatever the TL feels like, are the worst kind of subs possible short of 4kids tier and beyond. ESL, as long as they aren't incomprehensible and aren't strictly too literal, are more acceptable. In fact, many actual fansubs that /a/ have praised and liked in the past slide towards a scale between relatively literal and ESL, usually only because of minor editing mistakes.

You're really an idiot focusing too much on くそ and taking that at face value rather than looking at the whole word that's used and why Chitose called her that. At worst, the vulgarity only extends to damn, and that's apt emphasis to express anger or annoyance to a cheeky brat who was being conceited.

>>148325359
>Except memesubs that doesn't translate, but literally aim for memes and whatever the TL feels like,

There're like, two types of isekai and Konosuba as an exception.

Isekai that throws characters into an unreasonably shit world to trick you into thinking it's got depth without actually going into world building or a layered plot, and isekai that throws characters into a world designed to stroke their dicks to make self-insertfags feel good thinking about how they'd totally do the same shit if they were in it.

How the hell does the genre not get old after 4 works, and how the hell can you prefer it to the adventure anime when it's the same shit in practice with the exception of isekai skipping all the hard parts of adventure anime.

Sorry I missed this part.

If you don't speak Japanese, then why the flying fuck do you think you understand what connotations words carry? Complaining about a fallacy that doesn't exist doesn't suddenly give you defense against ignorance. If you don't know Japanese, then you're not qualified to talk about what tone a character is speaking with. I don't care how angry you are that commie does shit like what they did with the Twintails subs, you don't know Japanese and looking words up in a dictionary doesn't make for a good translation. There are a million ESLfags who pretend to know English here, that doesn't mean them eating up machine translations somehow makes them good. Don't straw man and put words in my mouth. But to amuse you, even 1:1 would be the lesser form of any poison save an actually good translation that incorporates formal equivalence smoothly and with good flow of English. It's the most neutral way to translate since a lot of meanings and phrases can carry multiple interpretations and nuances. It's safer than to make random guesses that could be more damaging and butcher what the author/writer originally intended.

Boy I sure do love this "argument" from people who completely fail to understand how important the quality of writing in a translation actually is, and yes, it's just as true with subtitles as it is with visual novels or anything else, since the translation is literally the key to understanding the work for anyone who doesn't actually understand the source language (which is why they would be consuming a translation in the first place).

I have represented myself poorly, let me try this a different way.

My problem with isekai ultimately is less what it is and more what it isn't. As you said, isekai only requires the premise of transporting a character into another world, so it can really be anything. But it isn't, it's almost without exception just the same thing redressed under different skins, covering the exact same ground. That is again either a setting that's cruel to the point of inconsistency, or trivial wish fulfillment bullshit. Cases like the exampled ojisan in a VRMMO are executed no differently than a dragon being reborn as a human, it's just an excuse plot for a protagonist to be superior to the people around them due to their arbitrarily having a different point of view to things, which is always a "normal" point of view, only the setting itself is completely stripped of progressive thinkers aside the protagonist.

In a lot of cases, there's no reason for a story to be isekai at all. The vast majority of isekai premises only serves the in-work purpose of dumbing it down. It allows authors to circumvent building their world or giving their characters any background or fleshing, starting them off in the story with both proficiency and character that never needs to be explained or developed.

There are exceptions, and I do concede that a lot of people read isekai explicitly for the dick sucking, but I don't think being popular makes a work good, and I don't believe that isekai inherently makes a work popular. For every isekai that catches on, there're dozens completely forgotten, and for the most part the ones better off have some other redeeming factor going for them even if it's not enough to save them from the grinder. Series like Mushoku Tensei would just be better off ditching the premise.

I'll give that there're some exceptions that make the premise work like Arata Kangatari, but they're rare and far inbetween.

Are you actually fucking retarded? Seriously question. Let's see if you can address my point:

We're talking about the accuracy in fansubs. Subbing requires you to understand the source language and the target language, to understand both and to understand nuance and tone in both. If you don't speak a single word of Japanese, then how the hell are you even remotely qualified to comment on how a particular phrase in a situation should be translated when the specific word used has several possible words it could mean in English? Please explain this to, you stupid fucking ESLfag.

>B-But commie!
Commie is shit. Commie subs are shit. I've talked about subs on /a/ a million times and half the time Herkz gets so buttmad he screencaps my posts and cries about them on twitter because he likes to pretend he's an authority on subs.

Let's do an exercise. Your friend is tutoring you and explains a formula to you, but you don't get it. You say 「えぇ?わかねぇよ!もう一回詳しくちょうだい!」 Is the correct translation
1. Huh? I don't understand! Please explain it to me once again!
2. The fuck? That doesn't make any sense. Break that shit down for me!
3. What? I didn't get that at all! Run it by me slowly this time.

If you picked 1 then you're an ESL retard who can't speak English or Japanese and thinks machine translations are acceptable. If you picked 2 then you're commie and think you're funny. If you picked 3, then congratulations because you probably understand both languages to the extent that you can communicate in them.

I sincerely hope you learn something.
>>
>>148325964
Wouldn't it be 2>1=3 then?
1 is horrendous in its own right.
>>
>>148325909
I'd probably go with the second as well, but I'd still take the third over the first one. Either way it proves the point that the quality of writing in the translation has a direct effect on the perceived quality of the work for a non-Japanese audience, which all these people arguing for """neutral""" translations don't seem to realize.
>>
>>148325966

>1.Huh? I don't understand! Please explain it to me once again!
That's more or less exactly what [えぇ?わかねぇよ!もう一回詳しくちょうだい!]says. My God, you're seriously being butthurt about the difference of colloquial English writing vs plain old English that still makes sense and isn't wrong. You hate Commie and call them shit, yet you're closer to them than you tell yourself.
>>
>>148325359
Since you seem very concerned with accuracy, I'm trying to get you to see how the line comes off to the Japanese audience for the show.
To a Japanese viewer, her saying 超生意気 くそがき is about equivalent in both meaning and level of vulgarity to someone saying "that little shit" for an English-speaking audience.

You can go online and look at Japanese reactions to that line, and I think they bear this point out.

I also disagree that "shit" is out of character for Chitose, she is canonically 腹黒 as fuck (it's literally the word they use on that official image someone posted, even) so having her use vulgar language in her internal monologue fits. She's also in her 20s, so there's no "she's too young to be believably cussing" argument like you might make for a middle-schooler or something in the same position.

I do agree memesubs are cancer though, I just don't think this one line qualifies at all.

>>148326271
This guy gets it.

>>148326342
"Run it by me slowly" gets the idea across because in English, saying something like "Please explain it in detail" is extremely stiff and unnatural. The Japanese in that sentence was not stiff or unnatural.

>>148326414
I'll give you a serious answer in the hopes that someone learns something here and stops pretending that machine translations are ok. If I put わかりません and わからない into a dictionary, I'll get "The negative form of to understand" or "I don't understand" for both, yet both carry different connotations. In my example sentence, the speaker was saying the short form of the verb, with a more relaxed pronunciation. "I don't understand" doesn't match up with that in the slightest, hence it should be written as something other than that in a translation.

I won't argue on that point. Even the best translation is "inoffensive" at best, and if you're consuming huge amounts of Japanese media, or complaining about translation quality online, then you should just learn Japanese. That said, getting the idea across while trying to preserve both the original verbiage and the original tone (as to not make characters who speak in natural Japanese speak in unnatural English) is what translations should shoot for, not putting words into a dictionary and then using exactly what comes out, and not reading the sentence and then just saying what you "feel" when you hear it.

Hot take incoming: memesubs are bad, but are "better" than inaccurate-but-well-written (or nonequivalent, to use the language in those images) subs that give the watcher the wrong impression of the work.

At least everyone knows memesubs are dumb and not representative of the actual show, but bad subs that SEEM good can convince people the show itself is bad, when really it's just a shitty translation. So when an actually decent translation comes along, they no longer care to watch it.

You're not a beligerent idiot like the other guy, so I'm happy to give you a real answer. Once more and again are redundant, you generally wouldn't stick them together like that in a sentence, especially such a short one.

>>148327056
It's not and I'm certain you're wrong. I'm well aware of what "at all" means, but if you're not familiar with how collocations and informal English is spoken, then why do you think you can correct a native speaker?

If someone asks you if something bothers you of if you mind waiting and you say "Not at all." it doesn't literally have to mean "No, 0%." it's common phrasing used to indicate the negative of something, like hyperbole but at as far in that direction. You're reading it completely at face value.
>>
>>148326271
It's easy to make points like that by referring to channelers and the sort. They're like us in many ways, that is, meta, jaded, autistic, and generally messed up individuals.

Kusogaki is already clear-cut and it doesn't translate to "little shit." From an English viewpoint, "little shit" and a damn brat have greatly different connotation and different level of profanity and harshness. Only one is remotely even moe.

It's obvious Chitose is a haraguro like Nico is, but she isn't the type that cusses in that way.

>>148326571
Same to you. It's not like you're a professor on the subject either.

No, a machine translation wouldn't even come up with that you gave. Go ahead and try it with any decent one.

The first and third part are exactly right. The second part is as you pointed out and what a dictionary would give , which doesn't make it wrong to translate it that way. I don't understand is already a short form. A formal phrase that isn't short, then it would be something to the effects of, "I don't understand at all " or "I don't understand it at all. But no, since you want it your way, then what you really should have said is, "I don't get it!" instead.

Stop trying so hard, Davinci dev. To see you shilling up your subs is unsightly.
>>
>>148327271
>I don't know Japanese or speak fluent English, so anyone who disgarees is a Davinci dev
The fact that you actually said I should try a "decent" machine translator speaks volumes about your understanding of the language and translations skills. If you can't read it yourself, you have no business commenting on it.

God damnit, why are non native English speakers so obstinate about about their ignorance? Seriously, when one of my Japanese friends corrects something I say, I thank them instead of telling them "No I know Japanese better than you do."

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/not-at-all
Please go ahead and tell me that you understand English better than these guys.

I was born and raised in the States, anon.

>British English
I see your problem now. I'm talking from an American perspective.
>>
>>148327687
If you're set on using that phrasing, "Once more, please." is the best and most natural sounding assuming the people talking to each other are males ages 18-30 and friends. That said, the Japanese is still really relaxed, and "one more" sounds too uptight for it.

>>148327719
>I was born and raised in the States, anon.
So was I. You're the reason people think Americans are stupid and don't understand English. Thanks, pal.

>Kusogaki is already clear-cut and it doesn't translate to "little shit."
http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=%e3%81%8f%e3%81%9d%e3%81%8c%e3%81%8d
Hmmmmmm.
(Obviously you can't just use a dictionary, context matters, but "kusogaki" != "little shit" is clearly not clear-cut.)

Also I don't know why you think Chitose wouldn't cuss. Even ignoring the fact that she literally has already, the whole point of this show is to strip away that pristine view of seiyuu and the anime industry.
The official website even says of her, "性格はクズ." That's different and stronger than just 腹黒.

Also also, those "meta, jaded, austistic, and generally messed up individuals" are literally the intended audience for this title. Further, if they are so "like us," then a translation that elicits the same response here that they made, isn't that a success?

I think basically what I'm saying, is that you're exactly the type of person Watari was trying to get riled up with this title, and it's working wonderfully.
>>
>>148327825
Doesn't think that, yeah "once more, please" is nice.
That's because "Run by me slowly this time" is weird in my ears. Probably because I'm not native speaker.
>>
>>148327565
Fine. Will nitpicking appeal your autism then?

That's not a contradiction, idiot. The point rhetorical to show formal examples that are lengthy instead of a short form that you yourself are fixated on. A formal phrase itself already implies following conventional form that usually are lengthy or stuffy or traditional.

>"Are you English skills (really) that poor?"
Nice ESL there. But no, YOUR English is very poor.

>What point do you think you're making here?
That length and proper form (formality) very often have a correlation. You'd know that if your English didn't suck.
>>
>>148327614
Wasn't the original argument regarding the use of "at all" about "I don't understand" vs "I didn't get it at all", though?
In that case one would apply the second definition, "to say 'no' or 'not' strongly".

And then it seems to me like "I didn't get it at all" is indeed stronger than "I don't understand", as >>148326882 pointed out.
>>
>>148327894
>Doesn't think that, yeah "once more, please" is nice.
Huh?

>That's because "Run by me slowly this time" is weird in my ears
It's informal/colloquial speech, just like the Japanese 詳しくちょうだい.

>>148327942
I'll give you credit for catching the typo, but holy shit anon, that's a one giant mess of incomprehensible English. It's very clear that you don't understand what polite speech in English entails. I suggest studying a little more before you pretend to have speak the language at anything close to a native level.

>That's not a contradiction, idiot.
I don't know if you know what contradiction means, but saying "Polite form needs to be longer" and then saying "Politeness isn't about length" is absolutely a contradiction.

>>148328021
Yes, it's saying no strongly, but he said that it means "Absolutely no comprehension" which is just wrong. In Japanese if someone says わかねぇ! it's stronger than わからない or even わからん. It's about nuance and tone, which he clearly doesn't understand.
>>
>わかねぇ
Please.
>>
>>148328129
>Please.
やめろ
>>
>>148328182
>やめろ
やめなよ
>>
>>148328273
>やめなよ
やめとけ
>>
>>148328182
I don't get it (heh). What I'm saying is that it should be わかんねぇ.
>>
>>148328076
>but he said that it means "Absolutely no comprehension"
Meh, if you look at the Merriam Webster website, you get "at all" = "to the least extent or degree", and the "not at all" = "to say 'not' strongly" definition is not given explicitly. So using this as a source, that could lead one to believe that "not at all" = "not to the least extent or degree" which gives it that absolute notion.
But in the end, people rarely mean that, if ever, I guess.
>>
>>148328401
It's not a formal word, I've seen people write both.

>>148328420
>But in the end, people rarely mean that, if ever, I guess.
Now you're getting it. If a little girl asks you to lift something that's too heavy for her and then she asks you if it's heavy, even if it's kind of heavy you still say "Not at all." Same idea.

>>
>>148327844
I cited context in one of my first posts. I'm saying it's clear-cut within the context of the scene that's under discussion.

She isn't shown to be the vulgar parody with bar handles off type, so no, not really. Don't be deceived now. This show will have satire, but the girls are still going to be all pure and waifu bait in the same vein as Shirobako.

>The official website even says of her, "性格はクズ."
Where?

>isn't that a success?
Maybe if you're Commie or are the type that enjoys rewrites or memesubs. But no, there should be a sense of seriousness and separation between one's personal reality as an anon from the universe of the fictional setting that you watch or read. You wouldn't be able to truly enjoy anime or manga if you don't retain a level of suspension of disbelief.

>>148328076
Reading comprehension. I said it isn't JUST about length. Just implies that it isn't only about length. Are you selectively illiterate or what?

It's not about length at all you fucking idiot, and your original post implied that length makes it or breaks it when you said "length determines it."

>Also fuck you. It's 4:18 am, I'm sleep deprived, cramming for exams that are less than 24 hours due, and yet here I am wasting my time on your ass.

Koto is a less popular voice actress. She needs to take part-time jobs to make a living. Even so, she still keep the happy-go-lucky facade and is always nice to the newcomers.

She is also Gojou's old friend ever since the time Gojou was still a voice actor.

Hi, I'm a native Japanese.
This post is nothing to do with your arguments, but "わかねぇ" is not correct. maybe it's a spelling mistake.
It should be わかんねぇ or わからねぇ.

And "詳しくちょうだい" is not correct too.
詳しくお願い is more better.

Both of those are informal, and both are used by Japanese people (hell, that's where I got them). In fact, you can google either phrase and you'll see Japanese people using them online, with kwskちょうだい being downright common.

So either you're pretending to be Japanese, or you really don't talk to other people that much.

I could buy the "she's is too good and pure to swear" argument in another show, or even another character (Momoka for instance probably would not be saying "shit" much even if she were speaking English), but for Chitose? Nah.

I think most instances of people writing わかねぇ are just typos or them being too lazy to write it all out. I know I would assume so if I saw one in the wild, at least.

Or maybe netspeak, like people writing "wat" in English maybe? It'd be on the mild side if so, guess, so that's believable enough. But I wouldn't use it for writing dialogue, in any case, as I've never heard anyone say it without that extra ん sound (maybe there's a dialect out there that does, I wouldn't rule that possibility out).
>>
>>148328965
Jokes aside, I think he's pretty decent. I mean, compared to how he describe an LN writer in this show, he's much better.

Meanwhile Mel Kishida is just an ikemen though.
>>
>>148329237
I see it in texts all the time, and I'm not writing dialog for a novel, just informal speech between 2 friends.

Again, I question the authenticity of your native Japanese language skills if you've never actually seen the phrase kwskちょうだい, and that isn't uncommon in the least.

Honestly I don't really know what to call a typo in Japanese given that people always type shit phonetically for exaggerated effect. If I see something like ここで凛さんを入れて instead of ここでリン酸を入れてI know it's a typo, but I won't bat an eyelash if I see something like わかねぇ。

Moron.

First off, the way your wrote the first is acceptable English and there are people that uses that kind of speech, especially in fiction. Second off, I said before in the reply to that post that you are being butthurt because of the colloquial writing vs formal/plain English. Third off, the main point was about a translation for a spoken by an anime character. Anime characters typically speak like the first, so you're not helping your case at all.

>And try reading your own posts again.
You can't even give a direct quote because it doesn't exist. Stop trying.

No it's not you fucking idiot. No English speaker talks like that in the situation I proposed, and the Japanese doesn't match up with that one bit. Your shitty ESL translations are not good, and your English skills are lacking. Get over it.

This phrase is fundamentally wrong. Length has nothing to do with formality, at all. "That's incorrect." is shorter than "Nah, ya' fucking idiot, you're off your rocker." but it's still the more formal of the two.
