watching urusei yatsura the art seemed to suddenly slightly change

If you've been watching chinese cartoons for more than a phase then you'd know that different episodes can have different art directors etc and such the style, quality and well basically everything about the episode can change whether it's intended or not.

I think you're at the point where there's a chance of director's - it's right after the episode where Ataru rescues an amnesiac Lum from Mendo.

The art actually changes further through the run of the 2nd director with the characters in general seemingly getting bigger (and the girls with thicker tights) and more 80s anime-like.
