Everything about this show was bullying.
That fucking bear kept talking shit about Machi, "you wouldn't be able to do this and that", letting her self esteem go down, and after Machi fails because of her anxiety overdrive instead of cheering her to try again they usually ended arc with just "I told ya" monologues.
That yankee bitch were straight up abusive and don't forget old men lusting all over her.

The bit where Machi has a breakdown and crise about not wanting to go to the city anymore and the scene with her and Natsu eating cake is from the manga. They edited those parts slightly though and really botched the delivery of it badly though.

In the manga Natsu prayed to the mountain god to make Machi not want to leave and that night Machi had a dream where city people threw rocks at her and she wakes up freaked out over it and doesn't want to go to the city.

In the anime she goes to the city, has a panic attack, and hallucinates that people threw rocks at her which Natsu and Yoshio didn't bother correcting her on.

They also fucked up the joke at the end with her not knowing what the internet or tablets are despite Natsu being on a tablet multiple times around her and talking about the wifi connection. In the manga he said he got the cake off the amazon site, which leads Machi to believe "Amazon Saito" traveled all the way from South America to deliver the cake. The anime changed this to "Internet Saito" which I assume is because they can't use Amazon because of copyright.

It wasn't intended to be mind break ending. They just really fucked up badly on the execution of it and it strongly comes across as mindbreak. The same scene from the manga is just Natsu and Machi relaxing to show Machi has calmed down again.

After her post was taken down, a couple weeks later the staff did the traditional "Thanks for watching" post. An hour later the author made a new "thanks for watching, etc" post like the deleted one was meant to be. Only this one does nothing but praise the anime and staff while saying any issues with the ending were probably her own fault because in a production meeting once she brought up that maybe they could go to the city at the end.

It sounded scripted as fuck.

>Only this one does nothing but praise the anime and staff while saying any issues with the ending were probably her own fault because in a production meeting once she brought up that maybe they could go to the city at the end.

This does sound completely scripted. They could have adapted it straight rather than twisting what was in the manga. I can't see how it was the author's fault besides letting the anime staff have free rein with it.
>>
>>148142502
He really chose the worst possible time to do all this as well. 2chan was raging over the ending even worse than /a/ was and noticed his deletions immediately which only added more fuel to the fire. He should have waited a few weeks for things to blow over first.

>>148142580

>>
>>148141295
It's worse than that. They literally set her up to fail, because they tested her on all that shit, but literally never taught her anything. Of course if you live in bumfuck nowhere and raise your kid to be completely clueless about everything because you shove her in a shrine, she's not going to magically know how to handle city life.

Dont just set her up to fail, then say see that's why and walk away.
>>

>>
>>148143466

>>
>>148143760
It's not even that dark, it's almost realistic.
She wants to go to the city but doesn't anticipate the challenges that follows nor actually prepare herself, her friends are selfish and only seeks to further their own ends even if she gets caught up by it.
>>
>>148143774
>>148143611
>everyone happy for her
>'holy shit they're throwing rocks at me, panic'

Not the coddling of a pedobear
>>
>>148143569
I'd have to go dig through the raws somewhere but I could have sworn the chapter the anime adapts up to ends on an actual cliffhanger while also restoring the status quo. Not as blatant as the anime with Machi mindbroken but she's comfortable with staying within the village.

If they wanted to cash in on the show, they should have adapted it straight.
>>
>>148142922

I was at least expecting some saccharine throwaway "happy" ending

Like Machi has her breakdown but after a while her nightmare fades away as the other idols try to befriend her. She gets her trophy and goes home not feeling ready for city life but maybe we see her closing out on a cell phone mail to one of the girls she made friends with showing she's actually getting something.
>>
>>148143815
A regression trauma is both realistic AND dark.
>>
>>148143900
It wasn't that bad. She is happy and without distress. Her behaviour is adaptive.
>>
>>148143774

Because Barakamon was a thing and it was great so whatever bullshit that shitty prequel tosses at you can be safely ignored when you watch Barakamon like you should have in the first place
>>
The ending was consistent with what the show had been building up. She failed most of the challenges presented to her.
Happy ending would have been a cop-out and also forgettable. I'm really surprised with people's reaction, I expected it to be praised.
But the writer guy is a fucking faggot for not sticking with his message until the bitter end. Should have criticized the vieweres instead and played a misunderstood artist like Anno and other faggots do.
>>
>>148143943
It makes little sense as Barakamon's prequel but as a comedy is not that bad.
>>
>>148143943
Baraka was pretty boring when you take the first time watching glasses off. It had a varnish of comfy and the rest was dull. Not for repeat consumption.
>>
>>148143936
>>148143953
Yeah, this is what I was talking about with "lack of empathy".
>>
>>148144016
No I think you're just retarded. I posses both empathy and a little sympathy. The difference is, her actions were adaptive. She has a happy, healthy and sustainable life already. She loses nothing by not going to the city. She has some serious issues with people and crowds which she discovered through attempting to go to the city. She doesn't want to go any more. This is a health and logical chain of logic.

It's not like she's shirking a promotion in her career to avoid the city, or that she lives in the city quaking with fear in her apartment. There is no reason to aggravate those tendencies unless she actively wants to tackle them. The behaviour is adaptive. I bet you can't even define empathy properly.

>>148137738
The bullying went too far, it's a gag and comedy fuel up until the character just suffers and suffers without rest.
>>
>>148144120
If you stop being dishonest for a minute you'd notice that she made more concessions to her issues than she dead succeed past them. While she was improving that by no means should damn her to constantly trying to adjust to the city when she doesn't enjoy it.
I don't like living in the cold. I lived in a very cold place for a year and became a sad sack of shit. I moved back to where it's warmer and am happy. By your logic I am mind broken and I should march straight back down to the cold lest I be considered weak.

In short you're an idiot. An extended response might include that you're likely projecting your bitterness and upset about failing to improve something about yourself onto Machi. The difference being, your escapism resulted in the neglect of something crucial to your life. To Machi, the ciry, while alluring, is tertiary at best.

This is why you're never going to be a better person, anon.
>>
>>148146971
Machi you shouldn't be on the internet. Remember to avoid thinking about difficult things.

They have to want to change, forcing change on them will result in mindbreak.
>>
>>148147011
Reminds me of a joke once.
How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb?
None, the lightbulb has to want to change.
>>
>>148143953
All of her challenges were set up for her failing them. Like this >>148142707.
Neither bear nor her Nii-chan were interested in her learning more about the city.
Bear wanted her to stay infantile and dependable on him, Nii-chan wanted her to stay in shrine and be eye candy for tourists. All the challenges went by the same scheme:
they were making her to prove she is not village pumpkin by doing something for the first time without any instruction or the way to look them up. She obviously failed and her failing were proving she is incompetent and indeed vilage pumpkin, that lead to more anxiety. She didn't chose the village over city like this anon suggest >>148144208. They'd show us how Machi likes nature more than concrete, how tired she gets from all the crowds of people, how is her head hurting from the city's noize and how she is missing her quiet village.
Instead they showed us her delusions and fears. It was not Machi who chosed the village, it was her anxiety. The Bear that didn't want Machi to learn things and developing as a person into adulthood had won and got his infantilized miko retard.
Such a great tragedy, I clapped during the ending.

It's water off a duck's back when that criticism is coming from a Kuma Miko thread on /a/.
I do try to improve though, however challenge and improvement aren't synonyms. You can improve on the things that you excel at instead of wallowing in shit trying to push activities and skills you don't have a good feel for. Do you insult a olympic sprinter for not playing guitar? Why insult Machi for not living in the city when she's a good Miko with awesome traditional house keeping skills. She cuts wood like a lumberjack, friend.

Question my personal improvements by all means but don't pretend there's a logical connection between that insinuation and my argument.

Not the same person but change doesn't always mean good or getting better. That doesn't mean being stagnant is good either. You should gradually let things change but still enjoy the moment then let it pass you by. As for being a better person you can't change what people are inherently are but I guess you can delude yourself.
>>
>>148146804
I didn't watch the show, so all I can tell is that you have problems with the many people who had a different opinion.

It'll have a happy ending they said. It's all a gag, they protested.

She went to the wrong people since none of them want to change. She would have to go out more and find people for that and not be stuck with the same hicks.

I hope you guys realize that it wasn't really a mindbreak ending or intended to be seen that way. They just botched it so badly that it looks like one.
>>
>>148142340
Anon, stop this bullshit. We've been through this already. Fuck, go through the archives, we had entire threads prove how you're a lying asshole for spreading this crap. The creator had approved of it and wasn't against the ending but against the speech that Yoshio had. You fucktards has purposely twisted their words to justify your hateboner. You are pulling the same shit that you did you justify sending pictures of your dick to a VA. You're no better than /v/ at this point.

True but all the more reason to put fault on them for making it this way instead of faithfully adapting it.
>>
The manga has the same mind break stuff though. Only difference is that things continue.

All the characters were shitty in their own way including Machi. She did get a lot of shit but enabled it lot of it too. Nobody was innocent.

Bullshit. If it was just about his speech, you wouldn't have all those replies about conspiracy theory or fake as fuck. In fact, other than my post, none of you even mentioned his speech, you lying fuck.

After that post, when people derail that into how it was all a massive conspiracy to put all the blame in the creator. When it is clear this is going to turn into a 'creator did nothing wrong and everything is the anime company's fault' type of narrative.

Overcoming anxiety and getting rid of her delusions that preventing her from shopping in the city is a challenge that would certainly lead to improvement of her life and her character as a whole. She won't be able to stay ignorant and hiding like she is forever since the bear would die and oniichan would be murdered by that blond soon ar later
>>
>>148148017
Yeah, to which afterward, people stop referring to and started their 'anime company and their massive conspiracy to blame the author' derail. Because if it was still only about the speech, I wouldn't be pissed as hell about all of this.
>>

For like 2 posts, and it isn't really brought up again in the thread. The rest of the replies and discussion are basically just laughing at the dumbass writer who called attention to himself by deleting his social media accounts related to it.

I'd blindfold and tie Machi to a urinal in some male public bathroom in the park late at night and then pretend to be 20 different guys as I use her, while videotaping the whole thing, then "come back" hours later to bring her back to my apartment.
