Just while SnK was airing, we got MJP, Maou-sama, Yuyushiki, Azazel-san, Uchouten Kazoku, Monogatari SS, Gatchaman Crowds, Servant x Service, Garden of Feet, Wind Rises, Short Peace, and several of the 2199 movies. If you actually SnK was even the best thing out at the time, let alone of the last few years, then the problem is with you, not anime.

I would agree those are the top-tier shows but I think there are plenty of other shows that have merit too. If you are saying those are the only shows that are good in any way then that is somewhat unreasonable.

/a/ was shitting on the manga since day one. I used to defend it quite a bit because I liked how the author conveyed motion. Once I realized the story was shit sliding down hill I gave up. I still like the way the guy does movement, I just don't think it's worth defending anymore.

Yeah that is fair enough. It is kind of hard sometimes to do this kind of "best" thing though I mean there are things like Tesabu from the time period that I have enjoyed as much as any anime I have watched in terms of pure entertainment but then almost everything about it is garbage. Then there are things like Shirobako or YKA that have strengths in some areas and are clearly more ambitious than your regular seasonal anime is but are also quite flawed in ways over and above those top-tier shows in others.
