>>
>>146884271
>Does it piss anyone else off when you see Vampires walking in fucking sunlight?
Nope, because I can't really understand why it should hurt them at all, except through some divine power.
If you don't have priests with supernatural abilities in your story (and thus no apparent God), what's so special about the sun?
>>
>>146884372
because Vampires are supposed to be extremely allergic to ultraviolet rays
>>
>>146884458
So they're using sunscreen.
>>
>>146884271
That's bad, but what really pisses me off is when they aren't weak to garlic.
>>
>>146884668
if you're going to apply this logic then why even have weaknesses in the first place?
>>
>>146884271
>Does it piss anyone else off when you see Vampires walking in fucking sunlight?

>>146884271
>Does it piss anyone else off when you see Vampires walking in fucking sunlight?
No because that's a fucking meme invented by Nosferatu. Dracula is stated to be able to walk around in daylight in the original novel, it's just that at dusk and dawn his power is weakened.
Even pre-Dracula fiction doesn't state that vampires will die if exposed to sunlight. At most they simply don't have their powers during the day, like the Kudlak.
>>
>>146884372
That stuff about sunlight comes from christianityy. First vampire, when he was human did something bad, and started cursing God and called the Devil his savior. So God cursed him. Light belongs to God and dark belong to Devil. So when that cursed human went to light (sunlight) he became dust.
>>
>>146884271
>What are Vampires who evolved past their weakness.
>>
>>146885650
Where is this mentioned? The apocrypha? Because it sure doesn't sound like it's from the Bible.
I doubt vampires are even mentioned in Christian texts in the literal sense, given that the ones depicted today are derived from Eastern European folklore.
>>
Department 19 is a good book series
not anime tho
vampires are op as hell and are way way stronger than any other vampir types, except like alucard etc.
>>
>>146885971
Alucard isn't even that OP, really.
I don't think there's any vampire as stupidly overpowered as Mandrakk, but I could be wrong.
>>
>>146886304
>Alucard isn't even that OP,
Yes, he is.
See >>146862647.
>>
>>146884271
If you're using a traditional creature in your work, the most effective way to make it stand out is to subvert the audience's expectation of what it can do.
Of course, how that's done is still important.

Completely ignoring the weakness or turning it into something ridiculous like Twilight's sparkling vampires is one thing.
Having the weakness still exist, but showing this particular creature is so ridiculous they can power through it is much more effective.
>>
>>146884271
>all the strengths
Nowhere near. The list of powers associated with vampires can't be counted on two hands.
>none of the weaknesses
Because most of the vampire weaknesses nowadays are recent ones added through cheap vampire flicks. Dracule and his predecessors didn't have most of these weaknesses.
>>
>>146884271
>Does it piss anyone else off when you see Vampires walking in fucking sunlight?
Why? Because it's not following the "rules" of how to be a vampire? You're retarded
>>
>>
>>146886580
>subvert the audience's expectation of what it can do.
what
>>
>>146886381
So relative power?
Even then, there were characters in Hellsing who could stand up to Alucard like Anderson with the Nail, and even characters who weren't that far behind like the Captain, Walter and true vampire Seras.
I mean, Alucard had to be tricked into being defeated in the end, but Anderson could have killed him in direct combat before that. Characters like Arcueid and Kiss-Shot had to be nerfed at the beginning of their stories just to stop them from destroying everything, because nothing else could actually stand up to them. I'd say they're typically more OP than Alucard.
>>
Why are people talking about vampires in general and not Seraph of the End vampires like OP is implying?
>>
>>146886964
Because the phrasing of his question indicated vampires in general, not just that specific case. Especially as almost every vampire in anime or manga is either resistant to sunlight in some way or simply doesn't have the weakness.
>>
>tfw watching episode 9 and 10
>If only they know how dangerous it is to stand infront of a 30 x 113 mm round.
Atleast it gave me a good laugh.

Also why were the vampires in owari no seraph so bad in using military equipment but at the same time got wonder rings that counters the dangers of the sun since atleast medieval europe during the crusades, have live video conferences with one and other and have advance medical equipment that removes the curses from demon weapons.

I thought that in general, vampires in fiction are highly intelligent and outperforms humans in all ways.

In traditional mythology, vampires were never hurt by the sunlight until the movie Nosferatu introduced the idea that vampires melt in the sun. This is what Hollywood and then most authors have decided to go with.

In Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dracula simply lost his magical powers in the sunlight and was essentially an ordinary human, but the idea of a vampire who retains most if not all of their powers in the sunlight is hardly unreasonable.

Authors deciding their vampires don't lose powers in sunlight is no different, and just as much bullshit, as authors deciding their vampires spontaneously combust in sunlight.

Willing suspension of disbelief is the basis of how anybody enjoys a piece of fantastic fiction. And a little plausibility in the setting and plot of the story goes a long way in establishing that for the reader/viewer. >>

Well, that's basically the whole fucking point of the plot: That the vampires are so OP, to stand any chance the humans have to resort to demon contracts and even seraphs.
>>
>>146897481
No idea what realism has to do with how cool/interesting a character is. Most of what people praise as "believability" amount to little more than extraneous details. A weakness does not make a character (vampire or not) anymore likable than if they didn't have it to begin with. There's a reason why Edward Cullen is hated while other Vampire characters like Slayer, Arcueid, Alucard, and Dio are loved, and it has nothing to do with believability.
>>
>>146899082
But those are the most common ones, might as well stick the general knowledge shit and then write whatever in the actual plot

>>146899337
Believability is never about "realism". The characters and setting can be as strange as you like, but need to be internally consistent. It takes more effort to make more eccentric and strange settings and characters work because we are only acquainted with reality, and the result is that you need to think much harder in order to avoid blatant contradictions and plot holes. In most cases you get more interesting story by imposing some sort of limit, rather than allowing anything to happen, and I believe this is what OP's objection is about. If you take away most of the characteristics of a Vampire, you dilute its meaning and the word ends up symbolising nothing, why even use the term Vampire if it's something meaningless to you?
>>
>>146884271
Do you even vampire lore?

In some myths they can't cross passing waters and can't enter a home unless they are invited.
>>
>>146890010
So it's from the apocrypha then, like I said. I was asking specifically where, since the apocrypha consists of a whole bunch of dubious materials from throughout the ages, like you said.
And I still doubt that whatever it refers to directly corresponds to the vampires of slavic folklore. Some kind of demon/human hybrid seems more likely, considering the giants were considered to be human/angel hybrids in some of the apocrypha.

They can't cross running water OUTSIDE THEIR CASKET.

And it's not a rare weakness. An inability to cross water is a common mythological trope. Literally every fucking water fairy in Europe can't cross the opposite kind of water to that which it is native to (salt v fresh).

Every god damn one. Fuck, sea fairies sometimes can't even come on land in rain because it counts as running fresh water.
>>
>>146906676
To be fair, like 40% of the time vampires are tied into Nephilim or Judas mythology.

Also, to be fair, evil creatures being repelled by literally anything radiant is a standard trope. Grendel found the king's golden throne abhorrent and trolls are turned to stone by sunlight.

The gimmick is radiance reminds evil of god's grace which in turn causes them harm. Radiance being a symbol of god is why you end up with all the halos in portraits through Christian European history.
>>
>>146903123
Not all vampires drink blood, m8.

Literally the oldest vampire myths don't involve blood drinking in fact.
>>

Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that the most prominant examples tied to modern vampires (the ones from slavic folklore and particularly Dracula) don't actually have any real weakness to sunlight.
>To be fair, like 40% of the time vampires are tied into Nephilim or Judas mythology.
I actually can't think of any cases of this. And it gets even further from it if you broaden the definition of what a vampire is to non-European mythologies, like Jiang Shi.

Not all Vampires may drink blood, but it's still the most important trait.

>I actually can't think of any cases of this.
Where the fuck do you think the silver weakness (when they have it) comes from?
>>
>>146884271
There's a reason why they're called traditional weaknesses. Over the centuries, many vampires have adapted to the weaknesses in various ways. It's like how bugs get resistant to pesticide, bacteria get resistant to antibiotics, etc.
>>
>>146907571
Dunno. It's not a weakness to Dracula, Carmilla, the Kudlak or any slavic-based vampire as far as I can tell. Apparently some European folklore interpretations include it, but I've not seen any examples of it or explanations of why it's a weakness in the first place.

>be vampire
>don't drink blood
>don't have pronounced fangs
>heart is still beating, not immortal
>not allergic to garlic, sunlight, silver, running water, or holy symbols
>can't turn into a bat/fog or fly or use hypnosis or turn people into ghouls or have any other vampire powers

I'm a transvamp you shitlord.

Silver pieces, I know. I just don't see how that ties into vampire weakness.
The oldest case I'm finding for vampire weakness to silver is North American folklore, and even then I'm not sure if that has any real correspondance to European vampires. And although apparently some cases of European folklore included it, I don't know any actual examples. Like I said, all the most prominent tales from folklore and vampire fiction from the 18th and 19th centuries didn't seem to have it at all, for whatever reason.
Everything else seems to be from modern literature, and without much explanation for it.

Flan is actually weak to sunlight though.
Her and Remi do not immediately die from exposure, but they have to protect themselves against sunlight, one of the print works mentions that as the reason why the SDM has only a few windows. They also have the weakness to running water. The rain Patchouli conjured in EoSD extra was the reason why Flan couldn't leave the mansion and why Remilia was stuck at the shrine so Reimu had to go and deal with Flan.

It's actually pretty great. I'm particularly drawn to the amount of effort GRRM put into the physiology and history of the Vampire in the novel. It's quite unique take on the Vampire folklore, and definitely my favourite Vampire setting by far.

Sacred Ancestor is pretty high up there. From what I can tell, it'd be something like:

What the fuck are you even writing at this point Tier:

Dies Irae vampires

Multiversal+ nonsense tier:

Mandrakk

Universal+ tier:

Sacred Ancestor, Heaven Ascension DIO

Planet tier:

Archetype:Earth

Sub-planet tier:

Kiss-Shot, Alucard, etc.

There's probably a bunch more worth mentioning, but still.
