the problem is that once they stop the teasing and get into yuri proper, it's not so fun anymore. the anticipation is everything. it's like an orgasm, it's nice for a few moments but then you're all sticky and it's not hot anymore and you remember that your parents thought you were going to become an engineer and yet here you are sucking dicks on a street corner, your tears making your mascara run, and shitposting on /a/ while you wait for the next customer to show up

And otaku isn't the problem since this isn't something unique to yuri, or even anime. The payoff is nice too, but the real entertainment, suspense and pretty much most of the elements to making a good story is in the build up.
