If there is one point that it's negative to me, it's the fact that I would like to see a fight or an argument about their different perspectives of the whole thing. I didn't play Zestiria, but in Berseria, kegare (malevolence) comes from itami (pain, but specifically emotional pain). Sadness, loneliness, guilt and regret, and other painful emotions may produce kegare.

That's why people driven by revenge or self-righteous assholes don't produce kegare until they start to feel bad about the consequences of their actions. And it's not the moral dilemma what turns them into hellions. It's just the fact that feeling regret or guilt is emotionally painful.

If Zestiria works under the same rules, then Rose doesn't become a hellion despite admitting that killing is wrong simply because her feelings aren't particularly affected by it. It may be wrong, but she doesn't feel bad about it.

I think the problem is that the game doesn't make Rose having some doubts at least. Being so sure that you're right is pretty dangerous, specially where lives are on the line. The Zestiria guidebook says that she's killed many people (like in the hundreds) since forming the Scattered Bones, and that many people that she's assassinated were all high profile.

However taking into account what happens in the actual game, what with her deciding to murder Sorey based on her reading the situation incorrectly there is a high chance that she has assassinated innocent people in the past. And even her reasoning doesn't make any sense since the only way to become a shepherd is to remove the sword from the stone so it's not as though people can pretend to be one. Because of that there is no way to have a fake shepherd without already having a real one recognized by the government out and about, and even then...

So in other words killing any shepherd would be causing unnecessary confusion and therefore malevolence.
