I was trying to figure out what the background they use for dimple talking in these two episodes with possessed ritsu and i think ive cracked it. None of the textures are ever random in this show.

There are actually people who "can't" watch the anime because they think the art looks "bad" but I don't get it. Maybe it's just me but the art looks nice, it's actually pretty cute and attractive. I don't get it either. It looks unique, sure, it's nothing like any other anime, but I don't get why some people think that's a bad thing. ONE's art, despite lacking technique, is charming and expressive as fuck. Actual good artists love his work and he's aware of his own limitations, but he's been improving. BONES and Tachikawa could easily have made Mob Psycho a lot more popular using conventional character designs, but they love and respect ONE's work too much to do that.

This is why I'm not a fan of Murata's redraw of OPM and get annoyed when people don't read the original OPM or Mob Psycho because they don't like the art. Murata and Madhouse's OPM is technically impressive but misses the charm and causes a LOT of people to miss the point of what OPM is.

ONE has an incredible sense of pacing and paneling and is one of the best I've seen at creating both fantastic drama and fantastic humor through his medium.

I love this adaptation because it's so loyal to ONE's work and stylistic choices.

Yes, precisely. His paneling, sense of composition and dosage of black and white to deliver impact are spot on. He basically has nailed every essential skill a mangaka needs except for anatomy and perspective. I'd complain a bit about the lack of line width variation, but it really doesn't bother me in his work.

I really look forward to seeing how far he'll go as an artist.

Could this be the most overrated anime of the year? It's good, but people trying to pass it as a masterpiece when it is so disjointed stylistically (e.g. Nakamura's part which seems totally out of place from the rest in the last episode), with mediocre color design, schizophrenic storyboarding and odd adaptation choices, I don't really understand. I guarantee you that within a few years, it will be seen as what it is, a good production but flawed and not quite at the level of the masterpieces that are remembered for their innovation or level of polish and overall quality. It reminds me of OPM. Already it seems everyone has moved on. The Mob Psycho 100 anime is definitely better than OPM overall, but their focus and appeal are pretty much the same.

I also want to mention that animation isn't "good" because it has many frames; for example, the cuts of Mob's head extending 3 meters from a single punch just look silly, especially when it happens a dozen times during the episode. If it had been done once for impact then it might have been nicely executed, but there doesn't seem to be much thought put into what the animation adds to the anime, somehow it feels tacked on. When people say forced animation, I think of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho. I guess it's nice to have fluid cuts of animation throughout, but it's like each animator wanted to do their little short film, rather than contributing to a whole.

This and the Nakamura part that looked almost like a copy-paste of his OPM scene are the parts I really didn't like with the animation this episode. I think when it switched to the Nakamura part everything suddenly became
way too smooth too. As much as I can appreciate his animation it just seems lazy when there's no continuity between cuts. There were other cuts that were clearly out of place stylistically but his part was the most blatant. Doesn't really work with the Mob Psycho art style.

I mean, I liked most of the Claw Boss arc but I felt that the final battle was really lame. It was too long and generic shounen type stuff. Honestly the only part of that battle I liked was Resignation. The idea that Mob had reached a point where he had given up on trying to stop this guy without killing him was really intense, it's just that the rest of the battle was unneccesary and lame. Honestly ONE could have made the fight shorter and just used anger, resignation and kindness and the story would have worked just as well, if not even better. It would have also allowed ONE to save Shame for later by having a plot line about how bad Mob felt about the fact that he tried to kill someone instead of it resolving itself immediately.

Hostility was this episode. The sub name was just different from the manga translation name, although they mean very similar things.

Gratitude comes at the peak of the Scar arc. Mob has a sort of crisis about having no choice but to hurt people and desperate for a way out basically gives Reigen temporary use of his full power. Reigen is ignorant of this and is just casually swatting down Scar's attacks thinking they're just tricks without realizing how dangerous they are. After this Reigen is able actually see certain spirits like Dimple.

Mob is naturally monstrously strong, the strongest psychic in the entire series, but he suppresses his power subconsciously by feeling no emotions, this was explained last episode. When Mob's emotional stress builds up to the limit, one of his emotions explodes out and releases the suppression on his power. He's not gaining some crazy power up, he's just attacking without holding back.

It's a theme in all of ONE's stories, about insanely powerful MCs who, for one reason or another, don't go all out from the start

Anyway, the fight scenes were really nice and quick-paced, and the adult esper's moves were fluid. Combining psychokinesis and close quarter combat moves as well as the knockout spray makes that guy dangerous and clever. I very much liked that.

I really liked it desu, especially the Boss fight which imo was fittingly grandiose and the appropriate occasion for Mob to display all those successive explosions, (as a stronger opponent may have triggered ???, which had no real plot or thematic relevance to this arc). In fact, I appreciated ONE's take on the typical final showdown between MC and big baddy precisely because it almost entirely focuses on the evolution of the hero's mental state throughout the battle, in a way that is very reminiscent of Gohan v. Cell (which also happened to be my favorite fight in DBZ for this very reason). Each explosion packed as much of an emotional punch as they needed to, and the conclusion to the fight was thoroughly satisfying imo.

This isn't to say the arc didn't have some hiccups here and there: a handful of underwhelming and/or unecessary battles; an unusual length that was bound to throw off many readers; a lack of focus on Shou's background and relationship with his dad, which SHOULD have a been a central element of this arc since he's the freaking son of the main villain, and with Ritsu; Ritsu himself not getting enough spotlight etc. etc. Those are all perfectly legitimate issues.
But I can't help but think readers (here at least) give it a hard time because it completely goes against what they've come to expect from ONE and the way he structures his arcs, even though Claw Boss arc does have a lot going for it. Funnily enough, it totally falls in lines with his tendency to never quite go where we expect him to go and give each story arc its own flavour.

tl;dr I really liked the Boss arc and thought it was very good, but just fell short of being great due to some issues that could easily be fixed with a bit of rewriting. I'd be fucking stoked to see BONES's rendition of it, if it ever happens.
