I just finished Death Note.
Why is what happened to Light after dying even up for debate? Throughout the show, the Shinigami are always talking about how soul crushingly boring their realm is and how it's rotting and pointless. Wouldn't it make sense then that that's the Mu place they talk about? They say when humans who use the Death Note die, they go to neither heaven nor hell, but instead Mu.
Isn't the Shinigami realm Mu? Or am I missing something? This would certainly mean the Unnamed Shinigami is Light?
This has probably been discussed millions of times over but I'm new breed and this is the first anime I've ever watched in its entirety.

That's a scrapped ending, but it shows that they intended for Light to end up in Mu anyway. It also fits better thematically: Light ends up in the place where there's no ambitions to be had, no dreams to pursue.
