The problem with the Sternritters was that Kubo tried to introduce 'balancing' abilities that circumvented power tiers into a manga that relies on power tiers. Same issue with the Fullbringers -- regardless of how unique their abilities were, they were hacked down immediately due to the difference in their Reiatsu and the Captains' Reiatsus.

The fear ability has no place in Bleach. Kubo made this clear when he had to fall straight back to the million eyes gimmick that he used for the 6th Espada.

He also had Byakuya's next significant opponent attack with mind control, referred to as "Love", just like Zommari. Remember "TAKE MY LOVE! TAKE IT!"?

None of them were very memorable. The guy who made people sick was probably the dumbest fucking thing ive seen in a while, and the amount of power needed to take him out was really unfunny.
