Friendship Cup being set up in the manner it was was the only actual misstep. Virtually everything else notably wrong stems purely from that. Were there plenty more opportunities for more character interactions and if it was just a bit shorter with some academia influence, perhaps a grace/gloria introduction, it would've been great. Also, as pendulum is the thing that connects all the summon methods together, it meshes better with yuya's development to have it mix pendulum and other summon methods, since at the start of the series he was focused on pendulum explicitly because it was his own personal method, whereas now he focuses on it as a way to bridge the gap between dimensions. It's a nice evolution that fits with his desire to entertain audiences.

But he did. You can set two scales and Pendulum Summon and call it a day. But to go beyond the Pendulum Summon is to utilize Fusion, Synchro and Xyz summoning methods as well. The core of that strategy that ties everything together is the Pendulum Summon. That's the whole theme of the show right there and it's basically akin to the methods you mentioned for GX, 5DS, and ZEXAL.

Some things I want are still happening (brainwashed ruris, for one) but yeah I had already understood Arc-V wouldn't be all we expected form with during Synchro, so I wasn't that upset by XYZ. Besides Kaito shilling I have no big problem with Fusion arc so far. But it's still managing to keep me interested and entertained week to week.

There was no Yu-Gi-Oh series until now that I didn't think were full of ups and downs so while I had hopes for Arc-V to be consistently better I was always somewhat cautios in my optimism. That probably helped.

Try Vanguard. It's like half skill and half luck. A lot more diversity in decks used and powercreep is not as bad. It's pretty fun. The current anime is pretty good too and they know how to write characters better than Arc-V and handle legacy characters better too. The only downside is it's not too plot-heavy but the characters are compelling enough to keep you watching.

Zexal was fucking garbage aside early series Yuma, Kaito, Shark, the arclights, and vector. Well of the main trio:

Chrono is basically a loner living with his Aunt who has no personal aspirations in life until he encounters Vanguard. He instantly falls in love with the game and you can see his character change over time from someone who barely understands people and who acts like a rock to someone with more enthusiasm and passion.

Tokoha is the female of the group and her shtick is that her older brother is known far and wide as a great Vanguard player. She's trying to get out of his shadow and make a name for herself.

Shion is the rich kid who's good at everything but in reality he has a lot of problems trying to juggle the expectations people throw at him. His whole life he's never really chased anything on his own and just did what his parents told him to do to uphold his family name as the future successor. Vanguard was the first thing he grasped for himself so he's established a personal connection with it, but he struggles greatly when he realizes he's not as great a player as he thinks. He tries to get better at Vanguard which gives him motivation to find passion for becoming his family's successor and take it seriously.

But basically the whole plot revolves around stealing the "imagination" of Vanguard players and harnessing that energy to call units from planet Cray to Earth. The antagonist wants to use those units for his own personal bidding.

Like I said the plot is not really original and the fights are ok but the true strength lies in characterization.

I'd have to agree with this for the most part. I dunno, so much of whatever main conflict goes on in the show feels somewhat impersonal to the main cast, even factoring in the kidnapped/brainwashed bracelet girls. I think the only duel that I would feel for is Yuya vs Yuzu at this point. I mean, they could build up a contrast/rivalry between Yuya and Yuri to make their (inevitable?) clash more personal, but Yuri's absent for so much of the time.

But that's like just my opinion, man.

He was a brat at the beginning of the show who didn't listen to a thing anybody said while being confrontational. He was nothing like that at the end of the series. Him being naive helped his character because his trusting nature got used against him in the plot.

After the whole reveal that Shingetsu was evil and whatnot Yuma still tried to reach his heart and the hearts of the other Barians in spite of all the things they did. All his friends died because of them yet he still wanted to trust in the "goodness" of their heart and seek their friendship.

It's too idealistic even for a kid's show. I mean Yuma's actions are probably modeled off of Yugi, who is also someone who tries to see the goodness in other people's hearts and help them but he's not a complete idiot that will go around trusting every person he sees. He is very aware there are many people who have bad intentions and want to do harm to others so he knows when not to fall for their tricks.

Welp, I'm just going to say this now and wait for the rest inner hate to come out when the series is over with: Arc-V the anniversary has rotten luck plain/simple. Just like 5D's it showed something new and was doing pretty great and dived down to very questionable as well as irritating choices.

With 5D's they accomplished (most) of what they wanted in the originally planned 64 eps. Whatever's after is an arbitrary extension that they were mandated fill up despite how it already wore out the prime of its life.

With Arc-V it felt like it was just starting to enter what could be its prime and continue to go onto great high points with its overarching narrative, but it kind of sputtered out before that.

Excactly. Arc-V felts like it was a very rare Yugioh series that have a lot of potential of becoming one of the best and memorial spin-off, especially with it being an anniversary series. Mainly because to me it felt like the characters were more interesting than the duels and the things that they have done that met most peoples high exceptions and the reasons the fanbase was hyped to begin with.

But unfortunately because it's an anniversary series that's it's major benefit and it's major flaw. Having past characters within the series as alternate version was fine but it's how executed in these past episodes was what made things more complicated than it needed to be.

And speaking of that duel, everyone was unanimously PISSED that Yuya got the end screen walking into the arena instead of Gon getting his own end screen for winning like Yuzu did after finally beating Masumi.

Arc-V somehow made all of its side characters seem relevant to the plot, up until Jack and Crow got announced and Yuya dueled Yoko. After that the show became a trainwreck and stopped caring about the side characters, and you literally can't prove me wrong on this point.

Pretty much a lot of things for a couple of reason:
1) The Synchro arc was too long than it needed to be prompting a bit of rushes of Xyz arc and episodes in Fusion that aren't really needed.
2)Past characters are given favor of the original cast too many times, downplaying them and having far too many missed opportunities.

That's not what I meant, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. My thing was that Arc-V has done things that were incredible and was what made the Standard arc amazing in my opinion. It's supporting characters were memorable and were missed when they were gone. Having Gon's decked something that could never be possible in real-life was turned into a possibility, the whole. Yuzu easily became my favorite female main girl for many reason as well. And what made it likeable to me was that it was all about Yuya even if he is the protagonist it was all balanced out and gave a lot of possibilities with and Reiji.
