The film invoked such a wide aray of emotions in me it's crazy: anger, sadness, disturbance, fear, digust, confusion, hope, hapiness, excitement and awe. It made me understand what the greeks meant by catharis. This is of course the result of beautiful visual direction, a complex storyline with both a strong, grand plot and a more focused, personal ones. On top of that it had characters I could feel sorry for, hate and love.

When I watched it on the one hand I felt like I saw something special, that it created a bond only I could feel but on the other hand it made me want to just go out and shout "Holy shit! That was fuckin amazing!".

Besides that there wasn't too much to like about it.

Reminder that Neon Genesis Evangelion is just an autistic worse version of Mobile Suit Gundam and Space Runaway Ideon. Anyone who says it is a "deconstruction" has only seen less than 10 other animes, all of which were made after 2000. Everything that Evangelion is known for was done better 15 years earlier by the master Tomino. The only reason Eva became popular is because it pandered more to pervert pedophiles (most anime fans, especially /a/.) Evangelion is the go-to anime for newfag plebs. They say it has "deep" characters but they really only like it because the 14 year olds show a lot of skin. A big difference between Gundam and Eva is that 0079 has one of the best endings in anime history and Evangelion has not one, but two of the worst.

I also just finished this and thought it was absolutely amazing, but they never explained why it was only 14 year olds that could pilot the mecha's. Did they mean that only these specific 14 year olds could pilot them (which would make sense since they have bonds with them, Shinji's moms soul in unit -01 and Liliths soul in -00 for Rei), or if say, they were 15 years old would they be fucked? They never really clarified this and its one of the only questions i have unanswered

Nope, Shinji chockes Asuka earlier when Komm Susser Tod starts. It's because he can finaly express his feelings of anger towards Asuka instead of what he would usually do when people did something he like, cowering and shutting himself away. On the beach he does the same, he doesn't run away from his emotion and expresses his irritation and anger.
