What's the appeal of this show? I mean, why people love it so much?
Yeah, there's some Getter Robo references but in the end it's just your typical 90's mecha anime.
And Prince of Darkness sucks.

I'm currently watching it (11th episode) and it's a pretty fun show.
Good for senseless comedy but also great at parodying stuff left and right.
The hot-blooded guy getting his shit kicked in,
elaborate transformation sequence fails because the enemy just shoots him in the middle of it
high school romance intermezzos,
composing a crew of lunatics,
"and then everyone figured out what they're fighting for... maybe.",
Virtual-On simulator pods,
super-corporation funding on an undisclosed mission,
...
it appeals to a certain audience
You best ask /m/ this question, 70% of the people here don't even know what this series is.
Because of this qt right here.
Goddamn, this show was great. Shame about the movie, though.

The best
Though the kinda inconsistent shading of her hair is a pain in the ass
Wasn't it like a super self-aware parody that had a story and stuff?
Also it was Xebec's debut anime
>Thread of an anime right after you finish an episode.
It's okay so far. I like it since it's kind of a dark comedy.

It has a cult following because it was the first anime on TV to express with sincerity that much passion for the otaku culture.
It may seem today less original because every season has at least one show casting a looser otaku character. But again, a notable difference exists, the otaku in Nadesico isn't a looser, but the hero of the show.
