So read the chapter and let me get this straight.
-The war of the Gods is public knowledge to some degree.
-For some reason despite being the most numerous threat out there, and taking a toll on the population Goblins get shit priority
-People still believe that having the strength of children is what defines goblins and not the fact that they can evolve into mages/hobgoblins/Drifters. plus their innate strength in numbers.
-It takes on average 3 groups of porcelain adventurers to stop one Goblin threat. So around 9-12 people will need to be shoved into the meat grinder to solve one problem.
-This could be avoided if they just offered more of a reward for goblin slaying since failure results in at least three towns being burnt to the ground.
-Goblin Slayer has Nam flashbacks based on simply mentioning Goblins in his presence.

I wasn't sure of how poor the quality of the writing is but there's a reason why exterminators exist. Sure you need to watch out for fire damage to your property, but if you don't deal with termites you'll still lose your home. This guild is so slow in reacting to a very clear and obvious threat it's baffling. The fact that GS is the only professional we've seen right now, and the rest of the guild is filled with glory hounds is also a detriment.

That being said I love the idea of GS collapsing an entire cave system while walking away with a flustered, blood covered priest behind him.

That obsession is noted to keep him from acting completely professional once goblins get mentioned. And as we saw in chapter 3, he seems more like a junkie with killing goblins as his drug more than anything else.

This is a world where you have your standard high level fantasy heroes fighting the demon lord, all your broken super powerful heroes are off doing that. So you get your super specialized character, but he exists in a world where apparently only he and a single Guild Clerk actually care about a clear and obvious problem. And if Goblin raids were somewhat common back when GS was a kid you'd think more people with PTSD and a bone to pick would have unionized or something.

You live in a major metropolitan area where cops are taking early requirement or flat out quitting because they're having to go out into the drug infested crime zones without proper equipment or a proper number of police officers (because drug zones often translate into gang zones) and you understand exactly what's going on.

If all of it was tied exclusively to one entity (as it appears is the case in Goblin Slayer) then you'd have an argument, but marijuana arrest money essentially costs more than it makes, considering the relatively low fines compared to the jail time.

Will block virtually any attacks by piercing, edged, or (some, the war hammer was an extremely popular weapon versus covered soldiers, just because piercing and slashing was ineffective unless an opening was spotted) blunt weapons.

The biggest weak spot is the armpit which should be guarded by mail (not costume mail, real mail that can defend against most edged weapons and at least somewhat against piercing).

Goburin cannot reach a human male's armpits, so they'd have to find a lesser weak spot and hope their brutish weapons and childish strength could pierce.

A hobgoblin or any other big bastard with a big blunt weapon would be lethal, possibly even a one-handed mace would be lethal if struck against the head hard enough to break the neck.

Spears are not obsolete though, and fighting against a flood of goburin is not 1v1, it's the kind of situation that a long and powerful weapon is much more useful than a smaller weapon.

A spear or halberd can push, stab, and beat away whereas a rapier is too 'soft', but of course can still penetrate to kill.

A saber would of course also be lethal, but only at close range, plus hacking away in a constrained cave is a bad idea.

So, the larger weapon would have more use because it requires only horizontal movement to be lethal while having the utility of preventing any to come close.

A halberd would also come ahead in a duel, since it has a range advantage and can parry a rapier (probably) and a saber.
