The best wordplay translations I've seen were from a French comic written in the 60s or 70s.

No idea. The old special chapter (5.5) hasn't been published in a volume either, that one was published in Young Jump when it was running in Miracle. Best I can guess is maybe Aka's planning to release a special volume of just the bonus chapters or he's saving them to fill up a volume when he needs a break or something, but you'd have to be retarded to just assume you could do that before you knew how many volumes you'd get.

Magazine scans are generally shit so you have to use filters on them, and generally those filters require you to get the screentones looking a certain way by lowering the size. Most cleaners just seem to not get the actual point and spam filters until all the detail is gone, and then you've just got a blurry mess.

That page looks pretty good to me, although if you're able then you can try doing it at different image sizes to see if that makes the screentones look any better. If you want to see if it's black enough, use the magic wand or a levels adjustment layer to see if there's any specks in a black spot like Shiro's sleeves. Try to get it just black enough that those are solid black and no more. The reason most scanlations are darker is because they purposely overlevel to avoid having to manually burn all the black areas. I sort of do that a little bit, but I level the grays at the end to make up for it and get the page lighter.

Just taking the last, say, 7 or 8 chapters - Volume 3 and the special chapter - we've had the 21 Umbrella chapter which was the last proper duel we've had (which I agree needs to come back but I'm enjoying the more relaxed stuff too), 22 was a dedicated Fujiwara chapter, 23 was Shirogane co-starring Fujiwara and almost no Kaguya at all, 24 which introduced treasurer, 25 which starts out as a Kaguya chapter but then transitions to Shirogane's point of view, 26 which is a Shirogane chapter from Kaguya's point of view, and then the two chapters in this thread which are both Kaguya focused with a healthy dose of Fujiwara yet still including Shirogane.

Other than the keikaku deficiency, the focus has been fine and well spread out.

I think the comedy was pretty consistent. But if Aka don't move the plot soon it will become stale.
