The original (0079) is a good start for UC and it has BD release so it doesn't feel so dated.

AUs are a mixed bag and don't have any continuity with UC. G, Wing, Turn, A, G-Reco and 00 are the good ones and can be watched at any time.

So anons let's discuss why mecha are not possible? I've heard arguments like that we currently know of no metal with the correct density that would be able to sustain a humanoid metal frame of that size (18m, average size of MS in Gundam) under gravity. Thus limiting their usefulness only to space.

I've also heard other arguments like the relevant motors that would be required for the joints and other such things would need to be built to take much more punishment than current materials can handle. Another one I've heard is miniaturizing a suitable power source.

Obviously if we could go straight to flying MS or transforming ones unlike the first two Gundams. They could be added to air fleets with the added function of under the radar ground based movements.

They might also be incredibly useful in space for when we actually make space colonies.

The "engineering and science" are almost non-existent and are rarely brought up in the story.
At the beggining arc of the original they explain minovsky particles for a bit then from there on science is never brought up.
The only series that somewhat tries gets into it was Stargazer and that was a 45 min OVA.
But I guess there's a level of imagination you have to take in while watching the series. But once things get going the science is the last thing you're thinking about.

I really don't give a shit about the conflict or any of the side characters, but the main idol girl is cute and there are a few scenes with really great choreography that fits with the music incredibly well. The part where the main guy is dancing through the air in his robot in the background while the girl is dancing and singing in the foreground was pretty amazing.
All in all it's mediocre with a few really standout moments that make it worth watching despite the shit CG for me.
