The VF in Macross are a fucking engineer's worst fucking nightmare, no way are you going to be able to fit all those moving parts into an airframe the size of a modern fighter and still have it be flight capable, even if it somehow could fly the thing would break constantly, the maintenance hours alone would kill any utility you could get out of it. Then of course there's the problem of the inverse square law with the robot form, the actual tactical utility of the gerwalk and battroid modes. Even if you could build giant fighting robots and had a legitimate military reason to do so, there's zero reason to try and fit it into a multi-role fighter, you'd just be compromising the capabilities of both platforms.
