I like it when it's well made (like in monogatari series). All the dialogue wouldn't be interesting without SHAFT visual directing and ocassional fanservice.

Anime that rely only on fanservice to sell are almost exclusively trash though.

Fanservice is cancer, but only when it feels obvious. If it's done subtly, you can usually get away with it. For example, Lucky Star is nothing but pandering. Even though it's not particularly sexual, it's still pandering. But it works really well. Similarly, WataMote is a sombre and mature take on the issues that degenerate failure NEETs face every day, so it doesn't feel like pandering when Tomoko does things that I do. Meanwhile, Himouto!
