Because Dragon Ball has always been over all light hearted. And while it can have emotional moments, it's suppose to be a comedy action. I honestly don't know how people wanted this show to be written. Ever since the anime got past resurrection F it's been taking off.

If you could rewrite Dragon Ball Super how would you do it, just out of morbid curiousity? I've since stopped watching but check in on the manga, which is pretty cool and skips most of the dumb shit.

I'd like to think that Toriyama has just stopped giving a fuck and is basically throwing out whatever plot he has in mind; the sooner he gets done with the DB franchise, the faster he can retire and earn some peace and quiet.

Not Super related. Found this pic. I know many people hate Broly due to the fanbase, but I sorta felt bad for him.

Reminder that goku once put villains on the moon and that frieza could blow up planets without breaking a sweat/powering up but is considered weaker than the enemies to follow. Characters, tails and abilities can disappear or be forgotten. Buu somehow doesn't win every battle, roshi can blow up the moon but can't fly. I still have a soft spot for it in spite of it's BS. At least DB didn't pretend to be serious for the most part.

The Freeza Saga had the perfect balance between humour, action and drama.

Androind Saga was a bit to edgy and relied to much on characters making stupid decisions.

Buu Saga had a good premise, but it seemed like Toriyama had no idea how to finish it.

I started rewatching DB and then will go onto DBZ after that but I could never find a good source for the apparently awful DBGT. How far is DB super into episode and season wise? I'm out of the loop

We are on the third arc. Episode 50. The first two were summed up in two movies (Battle of God's and Revival of F)

If you want you could just watch those, but Super does the ending of RoF so much better. Watching the movies though will let you skip the very unnecessary first 26 episodes of super.

Toriyama is a gag mangka. It just so happen a series of his about a boy with a monkey tail experimented with a martial arts arc and it became the most popular manga of the time. In order to continue the popularity, Toriyama was strongly influenced to make the series much more action orientated. To the point that most of what you would call DBZ can be attributed to his editors.

Majin Buu Saga is the only arc where he regained most of his creative control and you see the mixed opinions about that with its goofy villain and reintroducing magic back to the series.

I haven't watched any of the movies at all, was considering it seeing as how they have things that were left out of the shows. I still need to find a way to get the entire collection for at least DB and DBZ since I want them and it's too fucking expensive to buy it on disc for every arc.
