If you read the "common" route in S (when the Exchange War happens and the Bushido plan is announced but nothing really happens yet) then you can read Benkei's and Sayaka's no problem. For Azumi's, you should read Monshiro's (the Kuki loli) in S before that, otherwise you're good. Nothing in A-1 is based on the Agave route.
