In DB and DBA, the arcs always ended with the heroes get some power up that made them unconditionally stronger then the enemy they were facing.

Each choice creates a time-line, just like how there was originally a time-line where Trunks beat the Androids only the be killed and hijacked by Cell who came back even during the Android Saga. Android Saga had like four time-lines in play slightly.

The time-line this version of old Trunks came from can be from the current time-line, or somewhere between the old Trunks time-line and the current one, rather than simply the one we knew before.

Mai being younger and Trunks hair being blue might indicate its a slightly different one. There's almost no threat if there's no concept of "The future might turn out like this", so it might be the current time-line in a sense.

Mai being younger is just them inserting the new plot device that Pilaf and the gang used the dragon balls to make themselves young before the androidd arc.

Trunks hair being different is just an artistic change, as we see in the flashbacks already shown in Super, its the same trunks as we see in DBZ.

This future trunks is from the same future as when he went back to the future, and killed both the Androids and cell.

Bringing the Pilaf Gang back for Super was fine, but are they really going to keep coming with more of this asspulled romance? Like, where did it even came from? It makes zero sense. Kid Trunks is too young to think about romance and Mai was supposed to be a prude like Shu and Pilaf.

I'm fascinated by the "what if?" scenario of Goku staying evil and conquering Earth.

I don't think an evil Goku would've made it very far in conquering Earth being crazy without guidance. I imagine in this alternate universe that he was trained by the Crane Hermit and/or Taopaipai for a certain amount of time before he doublecrosses and kills them. I'll have a huge smile on my face if "Black Goku" in Dragon Ball Super ends up using the Dodonpa as his signature beam ability as this would confirm my theory.
