People say that about Legend of the Galactic Heroes, but I think it's far more applicable to Monster which follows a single narrative and simply takes a long time because it's slowly paced and you need to get through the initial mystery setup. LoGH has clear story arcs it goes through which alleviate the fact it's a 110 episodes OVA.

I totally agree about Monster. I went into it not really knowing what to expect and dropped off after around 10 eps even though I was enjoying it. Since then I've read a couple of Urasawa things so I know he can do a good, slow paced story that pays off towards the end. I should really go back and actually finish it off now.
