Japan's capeshit is way worse than America's, though there are a few decent exceptions and I like that they put their own spin on the stuff. OPM is ok if you can get past the shit art. BnHA is pretty decent though Deku is an intolerable faggot for most the run until recently. Tiger and Bunny was a lot of fun and well done. That's all I can think of that I found decent, but I'm probably forgetting a bunch of stuff.

I used to be like your average weeb /a/non that thought anything drawn from the West was shit until my bro got me to read a few cape comics, and they were damned good. I don't keep up with most of what comes out, but some of the higher quality releases (recent reads of mine include Batman Year One and Superman: Red Son) and the DC animated movies are consistently above average to excellent. The live action movies are largely misses for me, though I really liked the Dark Knight trilogy and the second Captain America.

man, injustice somehow aged poorly in the course of like, two years.

Japans publication model happens to allow creators with novel twists on classic ideas to get just as much exposure as anything else, so authors with enough talent to swing compelling or at the very least entertaining characters into superhero tropes get more exposure than original properties here in the west.

The west also happens to have a lot of baggage in the comic industry, that any given character or story that's well enough established will have to drag around with them. So it's like they're working with training weights on. Big, clunky, 80-90 year old training weights.

So right now, I'm gonna go with Japan, at least where cartoons are concerned. Between shows like Samurai Flamenco and OPM, Japan seems to be consistently hitting the thematic nail of the Superhero genre on it's poignant head. So far Hero Academia has been fun, but rather formulaic in terms of episode structure.
