Xillia had great moments (TEACH ME ABOUT BAZONGAS) and there was definite character growth for most of the cast. Jude, Milla, Alvin, and Elize were all at least slightly different from beginning to end. For me that's better than a complete 180 like Luke does in Abyss, since people change gradually rather than overnight. Granted, Luke was actively trying to become someone different, but it felt like the writers forgot that and just kept him in his new personality regardless of what happened.

Zestiria was only saved by Edna and Dezel. The characters are alright but when most of the skits consisted of "Sorey is such a pure boy/nerd!" and "humans are their own worst enemies", there's not many chances for them to express themselves in different ways.
