This generation lacks identity. There are no more gangs or groups. Nothing like the old Skinheads, Greasers, Preppies. There is nothing to be apart of except for shitty fandoms.

All we are left with is a bunch of betas who struggle to find indentity. We end up creating fake labels like "Chads" and "Normies" that aren't even real gangs. Just look at all the trouble we have with defining this shit.

We should create new subculture. Give it a name. Give it an identity. This culture will have its own fashion (that isn't fedora's and trench coats).

There is a real argument that this is not just a japanese thing... it's across all modern countries.

The latest couple generations are the first to have grown up under the absolute microscope of omnipresent, targeted marketing. Counter-culture like delinquents or hippies rise and latch on to things that aren't "mainstream", so what do you think happens when the mainstream marketers notice the trends and slam multi-million dollar media campaigns down the throats of teens as soon as a trend starts emerging? It stops being a counter-culture trend and becomes mainstream. Just look at the whole "goth" thing of the 90's. Even worse, if it is something that is threatening to established institutions it gets identified and smashed early, like the occupy movements of the 00's.

Basically, the rise of big data and targeted analytical models within both government and commercial sectors has aborted almost all the counter-culture movements of both the millennial generation and "generation z".

I say almost, because the one notable exception is drug culture. It survives due to a two-fold advantage: One, it's illegal; this means that that the commercial advertising sectors can only market AROUND it, like the commercialization and sterilization of rap. or the low rider car culture. They keep hitting the movements that pop up around the drug culture, but obviously can't hit the heart of the hydra because they are constrained by laws. The government, on the other hand, has been trying VERY hard to smash drug culture for a while, but they are fighting against perhaps one of the few things that they can't beat yet: raw pleasure and validation. Drugs are SO GOOD, and make so much money, that people actually stop caring if they get fucked by the government for associating with drug culture. The result of this paradox is the US drug war.

In short, no, the delinquent trend will never come back. It would be smothered by mainstream marketing instantly.

That entire generation grew up and turned into shitters. Most of them have dead ends jobs and all of them are unable to parade around their alpha now. Society crushed that out of them.

So weak pure-hearted dense beta MC are the new in thing. When that fails with this generation, you can hope for something else.

>>
>>141837524
>you can hope for something else.
hope
is irrational
>>
>>141837663
If only I were still in college. Ah, good times.

The economic bust of the 80's certainly brought about many changes. A need for security and a future amidst a failing job market could be cited as a reason, however, just as often you can find social trends with increased delinquency and social unrest after severe market downturns.

Just look at the American housing collapse. It effectively tanked both housing values and retirement portfolios, but the lure of drug counter-culture is as strong as ever, maybe even moreso, and as previously cited there was more than a little unrest in the middle class.

In fact, you could look at the part-timer culture of the lost generation and onwards as a counter-culture movement, but even that has been subject to more and more aggressive marketing and governmental strategies in the past decade.

>The strongest gang in the Kanto region is the Satans, by far, who have taken all the other gangs in the region under their command. The reason for their dominance is none other than their leader Yamaguchi Nitaka who is bar none the strongest fighter. With Nitaka taking charge, they begin their campaign on the Kansai region and all is going well until a flash of light takes Nitaka and his friend Mizuno Tsukasa to another world.

>When the pair come to, they are greeted by a princess who tells them that they are in a world called Olicia. In this land, magic, demons and mythical creatures are not just fantasy or a videogame but absolutely real. The princess’s kingdom has been under siege by the Demon Empire and as a last resort, she attempted to summon Satan himself to defend her people. Although she mistakenly brought Nitaka over instead of the lord of the underworld, Nitaka’s strength knows no bounds and fights equally as well against dragons and wizards.

>>
>>141835385
Replying to ancient post but whatever. I've read both a couple of times and really liked both. Initially I preferred Worst because it was consistently good throughout the whole thing whereas in Crows once the story shifted to the 'new generation' I thought it became a little worse. However on a few re-read I whole heartedly prefer Crows, during it's first two thirds it has better cast, fights and I think better writing as well.

>>141857121
If you mean you want realistic delinquent manga then you absolutely must read Bakuon Rettou and Hot Road. I'd add on Blue Spring as well but that can get quite odd at times.
>>
>>141863777
I don't know why people keep saying this, other than the title and it being about deliquents, Cromartie High and Otokojuku have nothing in common. Kongou Banchou is the real Otokjuku parody, with the massive characters and tournament arcs etc.
>>

What, how? A delinquent high school is not an Otokojuku concept or part of it's core.

For clothes I would wear a trench coat because it's warm, keeps the wind out and keeps you dry. Unlike shitty regular coats where the water just gathers around your thihgs/hips where the coat ends and it just makes you wetter there.
Sadly trenchcoats are now associated with goths (which I am sure are now extinct) and fedorafags. So you cant really wear them anymore which sucks.

Hiroshi actually struggles to get laid in BBH so far, latest scanlated chapter was about that. Toru is closer at getting it because he has that middle school girl after him but he keeps sperging out about it.

Since the Enlightenment era the West has been on a fairly steady path in terms of progressive values gaining popularity and leaning further and further to the left, minus the occasional bump like Nazi Germany or brief regional regressions like the Reign of Terror.

>Even worse, if it is something that is threatening to established institutions it gets identified and smashed early, like the occupy movements of the 00's.

Yeah, I'm sure the big bankers and all the megabucks CEOs were quaking in their boots that a bunch of morons who were suckered into majoring in Gender Studies decided they'd forgo showers and looking for a real job to let the whole world know how unjust it was that they don't get paid $50,000 a year to extoll the evils of the patriarchy to larger society. If only those damn dirty 1%ers who are hoarding all the money from us unjustly (if you replace the term "1%ers" with Armenians/Koreans/Jews, does any of this sound familiar?) Occupy could have crushed the establishment and brought about the egalitarian utopia we've always dreamed of, right comrade?

Everyone in the western higher education system desperately wants to be the next boomer-style protest movement and they have even LESS to complain about. It's incredibly disgusting and somehow even more pathetic for the fact that the desire to fight the man comes first this time, and the issues are created second.

To this day, pic related makes me overflow with rage, to the point where I wish it were real just so that I could take gruesome revenge on the sucker.

Slavery only went away becuase of machinery being better.
A weak country is destined to become unsafe and violent, then a strong organized force pacifes it and it all starts over.

Cromatie is a parody of Ryochi Ikegami's art style.
Ikegami infuluenced many manga like HnK, Otokojuku, and even Jojo.

This is just sad, man. I'm cool with the gangs but it's really pathetic watching this dude talk about all the awesome shit he did back in the day when he's barely even a construction worker now.

Yeah you're right, I think it did say in one chapter of BBH that Toru or Hiroshi hadn't get any for a while, so they must have managed to get a girl previously at some point.

The story shift at the end of Bremen surprisingly did a good job of explaining why Romeo was the way he was, it was just a bit too sudden, could have done with more build up.

Daily reminder that we will never get any Ikegami delinquent manga scanlated, feels bad man, I love his artwork

> Japan lost the war to the Americans. Since that time, the education we received is not one that creates adults. Even for us, people in their 40s, and for the generation older than me, in their 50s and 60s, there’s no reasonable model of what an adult should be like.
> I don’t see any adults here in Japan. The fact that you see salarymen reading manga and pornography on the trains and being unafraid, unashamed or anything, is something you wouldn’t have seen 30 years ago, with people who grew up under a different system of government. They would have been far too embarrassed to open a book of cartoons or dirty pictures on a train. But that’s what we have now in Japan. We are a country of children.

>being afraid of liking what you like in public is somehow childish

I mean, I'd certainly be afraid of opening up a book of all the weird shit I enjoy in public, and would rather talk about it on the 'net or enjoy it myself where you have maximum enjoyment potential, but is it really that huge of a deal? True adults can appreciate the fact nobody gives two fucks about your interests unless they themselves are into said interests. Besides, the Japs seem REALLY good at ignoring other people.
>>
>>141888554
Adults are someone who can bind themselves instead of expecting the rest of the world adapt to them.
>>
>>141887503
Yeah. Brainwashing young men with propaganda and sending them off to die in a pointless war means creating adults.

The lack of identity IS this generation's identity. The anon talking about this shit going in cycles is right, minus their weird alt-right slant. It's like how the post-war generations was marked by an artistic/aesthetic lean towards abstraction (Dadaism for WWI, surrealism for WWII, psychedalia for Vietnam, etc.) this generation's culture, largely shaped by the Internet, tends towards the strange and abstract. This was further fueled by the collective obsession with "irony" stemming from the 'hipster' subculture of the late 2000s/2010s. Eventually, things get so abstract and ironic that it loops into anti-humor. 'Weird Twitter'? The increasingly elaborate corruptions/edits of old memes? kek, lel, all of that? That's this generation's identity. Take it how you will.

>western higher education system
>less to complain about than the boomers
confirmed for not being in the western education system. show me a single college in this country that one could feasibly pay for, or at least knock a chunk out of the cost of, with a shitty summer job. unless you're a minority, a woman, or poor as fuck, someone today is probably gonna have a rougher time making it in this country than their boomer parents/grandparents. and even then, it still might be just as shitty.

Where the hell did someone tell you you should expect to pay back the costs of college on a summer job? Do you find it some kind of great social sin you can't buy a car or a house with no loans on minimum wage?

And on almost every issue the boomers protested against, from racial relations to women's issues to voting age/the draft, there is far less to complain about now then 50 years ago. People are so desperate to have causes to fight for they invent things like "rape culture" or the 1% (there are so many ways to pick apart the "1%" statistic that I don't even know where to start) so they can have things to bitch about. The evidence behind these things is so shoddy it can't stand on it's own, but people eat it up because they want to fight for the "right side of history" like the Civil Rights Movement and Second Wave feminism.

As an adult you should be expected to plan your own path and make your own decisions. That involves taking responsibility for those decisions. You should have a solid finical plan that allows you to graduate with minimal/no debt with a high-enough paying job that you can pay back any remaining debts in a reasonable time frame. That involves extensively researching job opportunities for your major and networking while in school and making damn sure you are going to make it when you graduate AKA do more then take your teacher at their word when they tell you there are "lots of jobs" for Film Studies majors.

The fact that anyone should have to tell anyone else this, or that anyone should react allergically to the idea they should do more then "find themselves" and "pursue their dreams" in college by taking classes that are the educational equivalent of candy is evidence that Japan is not the only nation of children out there.
