A boy falls in love with a girl.

At the start of the series, an army is besieging the castle of some noble in generic fantasyland.
The daughter of the family manages to escape through a hidden passage while everyone else is butchered. She's found by a gruff mercenary who's getting too old for this shit, with a cool dog. Learning who she is, he decides to take her to some nobles who had been allied with her family for ransom money.
They're later joined by a sleazy archer dude, and then there's bonding and hijinks moments as they try to stay ahead their pursuers and others who might want to make money off of the sole heir of a noble house. They then wander around the woods, avoid the main roads and the big towns and try to make their way to where the girl's relatives are, encountering greedy people who want the bounty on her head, or bandits looking to rape her and kill and rob the men. They also encounter Fairies inna woods in one episode, which turns it all into a psychedelic trip.
As things progress, the dog falls ill and can't be saved, so they have to put it out of its misery. The MC is made to do this so she can grow up as a person and learn some kind of lesson about the hardships of life.
In the penultimate episode, the archer dude sells them out to the enemy, and they're taken to be executed. It also turns out he had poisoned the dog to get rid of it and be able to sneak off to the enemy so he could sell the other two out.
At the very start of the last episode, they're both executed and the traitor takes his money and leaves. The rest of the episode consists of flashbacks to the moments he bonded with the noble girl and flashbacks to his younger sister, who had fallen ill.
When he finally comes back home with the money to pay for her treatment, it turns out she's all better and she runs to meet him with a big happy smile on her face.

Then suddenly shift the focus to a random 14 year old boy who is a private in the army. And he finds out he's destined to save the world. And does it with the power of love and friendship.

Occasionally, there's small hints that people on the outside are trying to find a way to return them to reality. But they never get out.

Mecha show where the mechs are sentient beings and don't require humans to pilot them. The mechs are also not used for war, but service and construction work. Set in the far future, they spend much of their time building spaceships, mining for resources and generally doing work humans don't want to do. But they have very primitive emotions and never bother to question their role in life. They basically act like cute 5 year old kids, but are designed as full size mecha and not designed as chibi characters.

International coalition comes together to create an agent of law and justice with unlimited jurisdiction. Scientists use nigh unlimited resources to create a robotic entity with new and improved back-up bodies being churned out all the time, based on the data they receive from its performance. The entity is initially controlled by expert pilots with committees of military brass making executive decisions in real time, but as the computer gathers more and more performance data it begins to learn how to handle itself, and eventually it becomes an mostly automated drone, later on developing what would appear to be a consciousness of its own. The twist?
We never see it in action. The entire series follows the people who are either building it or discussing the logistics and even the ethics of such a thing. We only hear about its performance via third parties. There is absolutely zero action in it, it's just people talking.

Yes. Write something and find the right person to like what you have and get you into the right project.

I am stuck in the middle part of finding the right person. I know what I write is good, but no one is interested in good. Everyone wants extraordinary and sensational. These days it is all about LGBT liberation, inclusion, and the pushing of socialist or ultra-patriotic values.

I like the classics. I enjoy playing to the themes that stay with humanity long after the novelty wears off. I enjoy the slow burn of low-key entertainment far too much to get into an explosion-fueled-dark-angst-nihilism office environment. If that is even a thing. I am also a bit too harsh for child-oriented programming.

At this point in my life, I am just face down on my bed wondering who it is exactly that I missed on my way up the ladder.

Not to be a jerk, but I was like you for years. Eventually you just have to accept that there are millions of people trying to get in the same door you are. And you either try to write something that stands out or you just give up.

I have wrote a few pilot scripts (spec scripts are all but dead). And I send them to contests whenever I find them. In the meantime, I have a contingency plan in writing short stories and a standard novel. For years I didn't want to write a novel because I felt like I only wanted to write for TV. And writing a novel would take too much work. But when I actually sat down and started to work on it, I found that a novel allows you to have a lot more description than a teleplay. I'm basically taking the exact same material I wrote as a teleplay and transfering it into a novel form. Depending on the story you want to tell, it can work as a novel just fine. And if I can't break into the industry by winning some obscure teleplay contest, then I can at least play the odds at getting a short story or full novel published.

Its all just a numbers game. And you either keep buying more lottery tickets and hope you hit the jackpot, or you give up and go get a job as a shitty consumer loans clerk or at a call center or whatever. I'd rather write tons of stories that never get published than go back to the shitty desk jobs I did.
