I was ready to apply the 33 episode rule to this, but ep3 was surprisingly good. It really got my hopes up, and then ep4 was the same shit as before. Yep, it's dropped after all.

I feel bad for the art team, they did a great job. It's beautiful, but the show is still not watchable.

I keep confusing Anne Happy and Sansha Sanyou so much that at one point I was going to look up a seiyuu from one of them and it took me a while to realize I was looking at the ANN page of the wrong show.

The characters look too similar and they have the same setting and are both SOL shows.

Just watched the first episode and it's lacluster compared to Anne Happy. The jokes are dry, the characters are boring, and it didn't make me laugh as much. The only thing this show has that other SoL shows don't is the pretty visuals.

I think both of them are pretty good. Despite being seemingly similar at first glance, the two shows diverged from each other quite well and have found their particular niche in evoking certain emotions from its viewers. That being said, I find that they're different enough for me to not be able to rank them -- that goes for all the SoLs this season honestly.

Be it Flying Witch's down-to-earth mundanity,
Bakuon's high energy wackiness,
Kuma Miko's incredibly cute but also jarring sexual humor,
Tanaka-kun's lowkey Nozaki-esque character dynamics,
Shounen Maid's focus on familial love,
Sansha's blocks upon blocks of escalating FRIENDSHIP,
Or Anne Happy's near-saccharine dose of unwavering simple sweetness.
Every show has had something different to fill in that gap in my little manchild heart.

It's also hilarious to see how different an early-00s Kirara manga is to a more modern one. Even more hilarious is how Sansha has that glorious sakuga while Anne Happy tries to get by with its almost experimental but not quite SHAFT enough style of budget saving.

Fuck I love this season so much.

If anything, those decisions are what make the show stand out. The entire series is predictable with the character archetypes and scenarios and while the characters themselves are fantastic, it's not all that different from any other show that would try the same thing. At least with the animation, they're adding visual appeal to a show that would otherwise be generic beyond the unlucky shtick. Not saying the show is bad but to claim the artistic direction is a detriment is crazy.

Instead of making Yoko bitter and angry, she's resilient and curious.
